BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team extended their win streak to eight with an 8-1 victory over non-conference opponent Virginia State on Saturday (Apr. 14).
The Huskies swept doubles play and won five out of six singles matches on the day to get the win.
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) began the day with an 8-4 win over Sydney Yao and Tamisha Richardson, before
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) and
Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) won 8-5 over Felicia Tucker and Christina Washington at No. 2.
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) and
Chloe Berridge (York, Pa./Dallastown) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory over Deja Lovett and Katlyn Kearney at No. 3.
In singles play, Nery won by default over Yao after dropping the first set 7-6 and being up in the second set 4-1. Calimer defeated Christina Washington 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, before
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) swept Richardson at No. 3 6-0, 6-0. Berridge fell at No. 4 6-4, 6-2 before Wentz won 6-1, 6-0 over Lovett at No. 5. Cerra closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Charde Washington.
The win improves the Huskies to 9-5 overall on the season, while Virginia State is now 10-5. The Huskies are back in action for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship semifinal round on Friday (Apr. 20) at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The action begins at 10:00 a.m.
