BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team dropped their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Team Championships semifinal match as the top seed in the East division to Mercyhurst, the second seed in the West division by a 5-0 score on Friday (Apr. 20) at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
The Lakers swept doubles play with three wins, before getting two singles wins to end the match in a race to five.
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) lost 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, before
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and
Catherine Garrity (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) fell 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) and
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) lost their No. 3 doubles match 8-0.
In singles play, Nery fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 before Bonito lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. The remaining matches went unfinished.
Mercyhurst moves on to play No. 38 and the top seed in the West Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday (Apr. 21). Bloomsburg will learn their postseason fate in the coming days.
Mercyhurst moves to 22-1 on the year while Bloomsburg is now 9-6.
