GAME PREVIEW: Huskies Set for Midweek Date with Millersville on Tuesday

STORYLINE
The Huskies take a break from Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central division play to take on Millersville in a doubleheader on Tuesday (Apr. 24). 

ALL-TIME SERIES
These will be the 105th and 106th all-time meetings between Bloomsburg and Millersville. BU holds a 91-13 all-time series lead. 

LAST MEETING
The Huskies posted a pair of shutouts in their last meeting with Millersville, winning game one 3-0 and game two 1-0 back on Apr. 11, 2017. In game one, the Huskies would score one run in the third and pad their lead with two runs in the sixth. Holly Peacock (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) singled home Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) unearned, before Parker would score Abby Remley on a RBI single followed by another RBI single from Peacock that scored Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge)

The Huskies scored three runs on 14 hits while also committing one error. Parker paced the offense at the plate with a 4-4 day, while Peacock had three hits along with two hits apiece from Emily Getz (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and Alexa Erney (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley). Three others also recorded one hit each in the win. Peacock drove in two runs, while Parker brought home one. Three different Huskies crossed the plate in the win. Parker also collected the win in the circle with a complete-game shutout, only allowing two hits while walking three and punching out 10. 

Game two stayed scoreless until the fifth inning, when the Huskies broke through for the only run of the game on a Bridget Casey (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) RBI single that scored Marissa Shelhamer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia)

The Huskies scored one run on eight hits to get the sweep. Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) and Mayhew each registered two hits in the win, while four others tallied one hit apiece. Casey drove in the lone run, while Shelhamer scored the only run of the game. Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) fired a complete-game shutout to get the win, giving up just six hits and firing nine strikeouts. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies swept Pitt-Johnstown back on Saturday (Apr. 21), winning game one 10-0 in five innings and game two 5-1. The Huskies got the offense going from the start  in game one scoring four runs in the first inning, following it up with two runs in the second, three runs and one run in the fourth. The first run came on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Tara Baney (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) that scored Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) unearned, before Casey ripped a double to right center to score Baney, Getz and Marissa Shelhamer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia)  unearned before being thrown out trying to stretch it to third. The two runs in the second came on an RBI single to center by Wheeland to score Ashli Venokur (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick), before Wheeland would advance to second and Maggie Hall (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) would score on a fielding error that extended the play. In the third, Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) brought home Casey with a RBI single, before a double from Hall brought home both Venokur and Winkelman. Casey's second double of the game would score the lone run in the fourth, scoring Lindsay Nemeth (Drums, Pa./Marian Catholic)

Bloomsburg scored 10 runs on 11 hits while not committing an error, while also being aided by two UPJ errors. Wheeland led the offense with a 3-3 game, while three other Huskies tallied two hits apiece in the win. Baney and Venokur also each recorded one hit in the win. Casey drove in four runs, while Hall drove in two and three others brought home one run each. Venokur was the lone Husky to cross the plate twice, while eight others scored one run each. Alyssa Davies (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) (5-6) fired a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out one. 

Game two would go into the third scoreless, before the teams traded one run apiece in the inning. Pitt-Johnstown would score once in the top of the third, before Shelhamer would counter that with a sacrifice fly that brought home Erin Smith (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) in the bottom of the third. After a scoreless fourth inning, the Huskies would explode for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away. Shelhamer would bring home Hall on a RBI single through the left side, before Davies would single to right center to score Nemeth. Casey would continue her strong day knocking a single to bring home Shelhamer, before Venokur recorded a sacrifice fly that scored Davies.

The Huskies scored five runs on eight hits while committing two errors, and BU was also aided by one UPJ error. Wheeland and Casey each recorded two hits in the win, while four others contributed one hit each. Shelhamer brought home two runs in the win, while three others each drove in one. Five different Huskies scored in the win. Davies (6-6) earned her second win of the day in relief of the starter Baney, allowing just one hit and striking out three over 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. Baney tossed 2.1 innings in the start. Allowing one run on two hits with three walks and one strikeout. 

The Marauders swept Kutztown in PSAC East division play back on Friday (Apr. 20), winning game one 5-4 and game two 12-4 in six innings. Game one went scoreless into the third, before Millersville broke through with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Rebecca Blatt opened the scoring with a RBI double that scored Devan Mascuilli. Before Faith Willenbrock brought Blatt home with a sacrifice fly. After a scoreless fourth, Kutztown scored twice in the top of the fifth before Millersville would score their final three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Millersville scored their first run of the fifth when Blatt again roped a RBI double that scored Allie Janowiak. Blatt would score on a wild pitch later in the inning, before Willenbrock homered to  put Millersville up 5-2. Kutztown would score once in the sixth and once in the seventh before Millersville would hold on for the win. 

Millersville scored five runs on nine hits while committing two errors in the win. Mascuilli and Blatt each had two hits in the win, while five others tallied one hit each in the win. Blatt and Willenbrock each drove in two runs, while Blatt crossed the plate twice and three others each scored once. 
Cassidy Pinchorski earned the win in the circle in six innings allowing three runs, one earned on eight hits while walking one and striking out two. Emma Bevard got the save in one inning of work, allowing one run on three hits. 

Millersville would break game two open with six runs in the bottom of the second, with the first coming on a Maggie Murphy single that scored Willenbrock. Megan McCurdy brought home Murphy with a single, before Raeann Buskey singled home Kaelyn Buskey. Janowiak brought home Raeann Buskey and McCurdy with a double, before Willenbrock brought home Janowiak with a single. Millersville would score once in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Kaelyn Buskey scored Willenbrock unearned, before Kutztown would score three times in the top of the sixth. The Marauders scored five times in the sixth to end the game by mercy rule. Blatt would single to bring home Janowiak and Morgan Almodovar, before Willenbrock homered to bring home Blatt and a single from Sam Waldman scored Mariah Ford to end the game. 

Millersville totaled 12 runs on 19 hits while not committing an error, and they were also aided by one Kutztown error. Willenbrock led the offense with a 4-4 game, while Murphy went 3-3 along with three two-hit efforts from the lineup and one hit each from another six players. Willenbrock brought home three runs, while Janowiak and Blatt each drove in two and five others each brought home one. Willenbrock crossed the plate three times, while Janowiak scored twice and another seven players each scored once. Catherine Johnson got the win in the circle, allowing four runs over six innings on 10 hits while walking one and punching out four. 

SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies are fifth in the conference with a .304 batting average and only one of five teams to hit at least .300 on the season. The Huskies are also third in the PSAC with a .456 slugging percentage, while also owning a .347 on-base percentage (OBP). Wheeland's 480 batting average leads both the team and the conference, while Venokur is second on the team with a .378 batting average. Her team-leading .816 slugging percentage is third in the conference, while Baney's .719 slugging percentage is second on the team and fifth in the PSAC. Wheeland also leads the team with a .500 OBP, while the mark is tied for fifth in the league. Bloomsburg is third in the conference in doubles (62), has hit two triples and is fourth in the conference in home runs with 24. Winkelman's 10 doubles lead the team and are tied for 10th in the PSAC, while Hall and Smith have hit the two triples for Bloomsburg. Wheeland's eight dingers lead the team and are tied for third in the league, while Mayhew's five are tied for ninth in the conference. Bloomsburg owns a team 4.16 earned run average (ERA) and is seventh in the PSAC in batting average against at .298. Baney's 2.50 ERA leads the team and is 13th individually in the conference through 78.1 innings, while Davies is second on the team with a 3.72 ERA through 75.1 innings. Balee Leeser (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy), Abby Wild (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), Nicolette Ray (Abington, Pa./Abington) and Smith have also contributed a combined 61.2 innings in the circle. The Huskies also own a .946 team fielding percentage. 
 
SCOUTING MILLERSVILLE
The Marauders are hitting a conference-best .349 batting average, slugging a conference-high .561 and are second in the conference in OBP at .396. Willenbrock is the team leader and third in the conference with a .451 batting average, while Janowiak (.411) and Blatt (.404) are seventh and tied for eighth respectively in the conference. Willenbrock's .920 slugging percentage also leads the team and the conference, while Blatt's .833 mark is second on the team and in the PSAC. Willenbrock is also the team's leader in OBP with a .457 mark. Millersville is fourth in the league in doubles (61), tied for second in the league in triples with eight and leads the conference in homers with 43. Blatt's 11 doubles lead the team and are tied for sixth in the PSAC, while Murphy's 10 doubles are tied for 10th in the league. Willenbrock's five triples lead the team and are tied for fifth in the conference, while Janowiak's two triples are tied for eighth. Millersville boasts the only two players in the conference with at least 10 home runs, with Willenbrock leading the conference (13) and Blatt being second in the conference (12). Millersville owns a 3.46 team ERA as well as the 10th-lowest batting average against in the conference at .294. Brianna White leads the team with a 2.49 ERA through 19.2 innings, while Bevard has pitched to a 2.88 mark through 34 innings. Pinchorski owns a 2.90 ERA through 70 innings, while Johnson sits at 4.05 through a team-high 84.2 innings. Paige Harris has also pitched 10 innings on the season. Millersville's team fielding percentage of .960 is also tied for eighth in the PSAC.
