BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team suffered a tough defeat in their final home game against No. 18 East Stroudsburg by a score of 17-5 on Wednesday (Apr. 25).
The 18
th-ranked Warriors scored the first four goals in the first seven minutes of the game, with Brooke Fritz getting things started from TJ Jefferis just 1:13 in. Just 54 seconds later, it was Chesse Rahmer scoring from Jefferis before the two hooked up again five and a half minutes in. Fritz would score her second of the game unassisted seven minutes in, before
Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) got the Huskies on the board with her 12
th of the season a minute later. As the clock passed the first 10 minutes of the first half,
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) netted her 28
th of the season from
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) to get the Huskies within 4-2. That is the closest the Huskies would get, as the Warriors scored the next five goals over an eight-minute span. Krista Mitarotonda scored unassisted with 17 and a half minutes to play in the half, before Jefferis scored from Hana Cicerelle two minutes later. As clock crossed the halfway point of the first, Emma Rufolo scored unassisted with 11:18 to play before Fritz would score the first of her two straight in less than a minute. Her first came at 10:26 unassisted before following it up with another one 28 seconds later from Mitarotonda. Kelleher netted her 26
th of the season unassisted with 9:38 to play in the first half, before
Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township) scored her 12
th of the season unassisted with just over six minutes to play in the first. The Warriors would score three more goals in the first half to take a 12-4 lead to the break. Rufolo scored unassisted with three and a half minutes left, before Rahmer scored unassisted with just under three minutes to play. Rahmer scored from Fritz with just 31 seconds left for the final goal of the first half.
The Warriors would continue their run in the second half, scoring the first four goals over the first 12 and a half minutes. Mitarotonda scored less than two minutes in, before Cassidy McKenna scored from Jefferis less than four minutes in. Mitarotonda found the back of the net again just over eight minutes in, before Jefferis scored from Fritz with 17 and a half minutes to play in the second half. Bloomsburg's final goal came with 16 and a half minutes to play off the stick of Kelleher assisted by
Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan). The final ESU goal of the game came from Fritz unassisted with 10 and a half minutes to play.
Bloomsburg registered 25 shots in the game, including 17 on goal. Kelleher led the Huskies with two goals, while Turner, Jaskuta and Smith each scored once. Kelleher and Rusen each dished out helpers in the game for BU. East Stroudsburg held a slim 32-30 edge in ground balls, with
Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) collecting a team-high six for Bloomsburg.
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) picked up four, along with three others grabbing three each. Four other Huskies picked up two each, while another three players each registered one ground ball. Bloomsburg caused 15 of ESU's 26 turnovers, with five Huskies each forcing two turnovers and another five each causing one turnover. East Stroudsburg edged Bloomsburg in draw controls 13-11, with
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley)'s three being a team-high for BU. Three other Huskies recorded two draw controls apiece, while Smith and
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) each snagged one. DiPasquale (10-6) took the loss in the cage, making 10 saves.
The Huskies move to 10-6 overall and 6-5 in the PSAC, while No. 18 East Stroudsburg is now 12-2 and 11-1 in the conference.
The Huskies conclude their regular season on Saturday (Apr. 28) when they travel to Gannon for a PSAC showdown. Opening draw for that game is set for 12:00 p.m.
