ERIE, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team fell at Gannon 12-10 in their regular season finale in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) on Saturday (Apr. 28).
Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) began the scoring with her 35
thof the season assisted by
Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) less than four minutes in, before Gannon would score the next two goals within 38 seconds of each other. Leilani King scored unassisted 5:11 into the first half, before Kayla Shields scored from Erin Rotondo at 5:49 of the first half.
Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township) would tie the game at two with her 13
thof the season unassisted with over 16 minutes to play in the first half, before Gannon would score the final goal of the first half with 12 minutes to play. Kat Martinelli scored from Alexa Bower to give Gannon a 3-2 lead that they would take to the half.
Gannon would score the first goal of the second half just 1:21 in when Rotondo scored unassisted. Approaching the five-minute mark of the second half, Rusen scored unassisted to get back within one, before the Golden Knights would score the next three goals to pull away. King scored unassisted just past the five-minute mark, before Bower would score from Rotondo seven minutes into the half. Jayme Kostial scored unassisted with 19 minutes to play in the half to put Gannon up 7-3.
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) scored her ninth of the season from
Kirsten Wozniak (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) with 16:52 to play in the second half, before Rotondo would score from King just 15 seconds later. Maddie Krock would get in on the scoring for Gannon with just over 14 minutes left assisted by King to leave Gannon up by five. Bloomsburg would score the next four goals over the next eight minutes to get back in the game and leave the score just 9-8 in favor of Gannon. Dempsey scored with just under 14 minutes left assisted by
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), before
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) scored her 28
thof the season just 1:05 later. As the clock entered the final 10 minutes,
Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) scored her 13
thof the year unassisted with eight and a half minutes to play. Rusen's hat trick goal came with just under seven minutes to play to get the Huskies within one, before Gannon would score the next three goals over a two-minute span. Shields scored from King with six minutes to play, before King scored the next two goals unassisted just 21 seconds apart. Bloomsburg scored the final two goals of the game, with Rusen scoring her fourth of the afternoon from Kelleher with 1:21 left and Bergman netting her 15
thof the season unassisted with just 37 seconds left. Gannon held on for the win.
Bloomsburg out-shot Gannon 32-29 in the loss, including 26-21 in shots on goal. Rusen led BU with a game-high four goals, while Dempsey scored twice. Turner, Bergman, Kelleher and Smith also each netted one goal in the game. Four different Huskies tallied assists in the win. BU won the battle for ground balls 30-26, led by five from
Tiffany Diachynsky (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area).
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) picked up four, while three others scooped up three each. Another three Huskies collected two ground balls each, along with six others each registering one. Bloomsburg caused 17 of Gannon's 29 turnovers, with four from
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) being a team-high. Four other Huskies each caused two turnovers in the win, while another five players each forced one. Bloomsburg also won eight draw controls on the afternoon, with Bergman and Smith each winning two. Four other Huskies pulled down one draw control each. DiPasquale (10-7) took the loss in the cage, making nine saves.
The Huskies are now 10-7 and 6-6 in the PSAC, while Gannon moves to 4-10 and 3-9 in conference.
The Huskies will qualify for the PSAC tournament as the No. 6 seed and will take on No. 3 seed Mercyhurst on Tuesday (May 1) in a tournament quarterfinal matchup.
