PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team won their second straight game in the non-conference portion of their schedule on Sunday (Apr. 8), defeating Jefferson 18-8.
Sydney Collins (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) got the scoring started with her seventh of the year assisted by
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) just 27 seconds in, before Samantha Ryder tied the game 1:48 in. Bloomsburg would score the next two goals just 1:20 apart, with
Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) scoring her ninth of the season unassisted (25:42) and
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) scoring her eighth of the season from Jaskuta at 24:22. Jefferson would get one goal back from Kathryn Avanzato just over seven minutes in, before Bloomsburg would score their next four goals over a six-minute span. Coyle scored unassisted at 17:17, before
Kirsten Wozniak (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) scored her fourth of the campaign unassisted at 16:07.
Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) would score her ninth of the year from
Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) with less than 13 minutes to play in the half, before Bergman would score her second of the game from Wozniak just 1:06 later. Ryder would score unassisted again with less than eight minutes to play in the first half, before Bloomsburg would score two of the final three goals in the frame.
Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) netted her 22
ndof the season in a woman-down situation with six minutes to play in the frame, before Jaskuta matched her with her 22
ndof the season with less than three minutes to play in the half. Erin Eckert would score the final goal of the half for Jefferson from Avanzato with 52 seconds left, sending BU to the half up 9-4.
The two teams would match their respective scoring totals from the first half in the second, with Bloomsburg scoring the first five goals of the frame. Gormley began the scoring just 1:05 in on a woman-up opportunity from Coyle, before scoring her second consecutive goal four minutes in from Bergman to put the Huskies up 11-4.
Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township) found the back of the net for the eighth time this season just under five minutes into the half, before Wozniak scored a woman-up goal from Jaskuta just 55 seconds later. Bergman scored the final goal of the opening run from Wozniak seven and a half minutes in to put the Huskies up by 10. Jefferson would score the next three goals in under four minutes, beginning with Sarah von Lange scoring unassisted just over nine minutes in. Avanzato would score from Ryder with just over 17 minutes left, before Ryder would score from Camryn Sullivan just 22 seconds later. Rusen would net her 24
thof the season from Jaskuta with just under 16 minutes to play, before Jefferson's final goal of the game would come with 12 and a half minutes left off the stick of von Lange assisted by Laura Dunne. The final three goals for BU came from Coyle (woman-up, 10:51) assisted by Turner, Turner from
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (9:04) and Bergman from Gormley with 7:50 left.
Bloomsburg out-shot Jefferson 31-22 in the win, including 23-18 in shots on goal. Bergman led the offense with a game-high and single-game career-high four goals, while Coyle and Gormley each netted hat tricks in the game. Wozniak and Turner each found the back of the net twice, while four others each scored once. Jaskuta tallied a game-high four assists on the afternoon, while Wozniak helped on two goals and six others each registered one assist in the game. Bloomsburg held a slim 23-21 edge in ground balls, led by a team-high four from Smith.
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) picked up three, while four others each scooped up two and another eight Huskies grabbed one each. Bloomsburg caused 16 of Jefferson's 19 turnovers, with
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) leading the team with three. Three others caused two turnovers apiece in the win, while another seven Huskies each forced one turnover on the afternoon. Each team grabbed 14 draw controls, with BU led by three each from Bergman and
Erin Boulger (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area). Three Huskies pulled down two draw controls each, while
Allison Bardman (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) and Turner each collected one in the win. DiPasquale (8-3) earned the win between the pipes, making 10 saves.
The win moves the Huskies to 8-3 while Jefferson falls to 3-7.
BU is back on the turf of Steph Pettit Stadium on Wednesday (Apr. 8) when they return to conference play to host Lock Haven. Opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m.
