STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team pitched its second consecutive shutout within the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East division, defeating East Stroudsburg 9-0 on Sunday (Apr. 8).
Bloomsburg swept the three doubles contests while also winning all six singles matches.
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) held Marina Zardet and Aubrianna Stetina scoreless in an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, before
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and
Catherine Garrity (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) defeated Elizabeth Bartoli and Devin Presby 9-8 (7-5) at No. 2.
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) and Sienna Cerra defeated Amanda Jackson and Quinn McCluskey 8-3 to complete the doubles sweep.
Nery began singles play with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Zardet at No. 1, before Calimer beat Presby in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) picked up a 3-6, 6-4, 10-2 win at No. 3 over Stetina, before Sarquis beat McCluskey at No. 4 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.
Chloe Berridge (York, Pa./Dallastown) won over Bartoli at No. 5 6-2, 6-1 and
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Lauren Morrissey.
Bloomsburg moves over .500 to 6-5 and stays perfect (4-0) in the PSAC East with the win, while ESU falls to 4-8 and 1-2 in the PSAC East.
The Huskies put their win streak on the line on Tuesday (Apr. 10) when they welcome Kutztown to the Burt Reese Tennis Center. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
