STORYLINE
The Huskies look to continue their winning ways in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) when they take on Kutztown on Tuesday (Apr. 10). Over the weekend, BU clinched the top spot in the upcoming PSAC Championships (Apr. 17, 19-21).
ALL-TIME SERIES
This will be the 45
thall-time meeting between Bloomsburg and Kutztown. BU holds the all-time series lead 40-4.
LAST MEETING
The Huskies defeated Kutztown 7-2 in the last meeting between the two teams back on Apr. 11, 2017. Bloomsburg won two out of three doubles matches and five out of six singles matches to get the victory.
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Catherine Garrity (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) and Sienna Cerra earned the 8-0 win at No. 2.
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) and
Lizzy Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) fell at No. 3 doubles 9-7. Calimer began single splay with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1, while Nery fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2. Garrity won at No. 3 6-2, 6-2 before Wentz earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Chloe Berridge (York, Pa./Dallastown) won at No. 5 6-2, 6-2 before Cerra closed it out with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6.
LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies defeated West Chester back on Mar. 31 5-4 in thrilling fashion. The Huskies won two of three doubles matches, before winning three out of six doubles matches. Calimer and Nery began doubles play with an 8-4 win over Rylee Power and Shannon Nixon, before
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and Garrity dropped their No. 2 match 8-4.
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) and Cerra won at No. 3 doubles 9-8 to get the second win. In singles play, Wentz was the first to take care of business with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sofia Von der Heyde at No. 6. Sarquis swept Elaina Rochford 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, before Bonito fell to Nixon 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. Calimer dropped her No. 1 singles match to Power 6-2, 6-1 before Berridge earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Julia Mowrey at No. 5. The match came down to No. 2 singles, where Nery outlasted Leandra Roelker 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 to clinch the victory.
Kutztown fell in their last action to Jefferson 8-1 back on Apr. 6. Jefferson swept doubles play and won five out of six matches. Taylor Capoferri and Kara Urland fell at No. 1 doubles 8-4, before Alicia Pursell and Shadimon Navarro lost at No. 2 8-1. Yasmeen Malik and Ashley Carter lost at No. 3 9-7 for Jefferson to complete the sweep. Capoferri captured the only win of the afternoon for Kutztown at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win, before Malik fell at No. 2 6-1, 6-2. Pursell lost at No. 3 6-4, 2-6, 10-3, before Urland lost at No. 4 6-0, 6-0. Mackenzie Delp dropped her No. 5 match 6-1, 6-0 before Elyssa Tomczyk lost 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies own a 31-18 combined doubles record as well as a 57-35 singles record on the season. Calimer and Nery lead the team in doubles play with nine wins, while Bonito and Garrity are second on the team with five doubles wins. Cerra and Sarquis are 4-0 as a team on the year, while four other doubles pairs each have two wins and another five doubles tandems each have one win. Wentz is the team's singles wins leader with 10, while Nery is second on the team with nine. Berridge and Bonito each have eight, while Sarquis has seven. Three Huskies each have three singles wins apiece, and
Cara Eschenmann (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) has also contributed two singles wins on the year.
SCOUTING KUTZTOWN
Kutztown has won nine doubles matches and 18 singles matches on the year. Three doubles pairs have two wins apiece, while two others have one win on the year. Capoferri leads the team in singles play with four wins, while Tomczyk has three wins. Three other Golden Bears each have two singles wins on the year, while Delp and Urland hae each won one match in singles play.
