BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team allowed three first-half goals to visiting Lock Haven University on Wednesday night and suffered a 4-0 loss to the Bald Eagles in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener for both teams. The loss was the Huskies third straight setback as they fell to 2-3 overall. Lock Haven improved to 2-2-1 with the victory.
Andrew Moore started the scoring for the visitors with he headed a corner kick from Brian Flatter past sophomore goalkeeper
Trey Orner (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Just over 13 minutes later, Flatter extended the lead to 2-0 when he curled a shot past Orner from the left wing that tucked just inside the near post. Then, with just 22 seconds left in the opening half, Reggie Holt one-timed a centering pass from Colton Dellinger past Orner for a 3-0 lead as the teams headed to the break.
The Huskies applied some pressure early in the second half with the best scoring effort coming from junior
Duncan Mitchell (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) when he took a direct kick from just outside the box in the 54th minute. His shot appeared destined to sneak just under the crossbar but Lock Haven goalkeeper Camden Cook jumped up and got a piece of the attempt to keep Bloomsburg off the scoreboard.
The visitors essentially sealed it in the 74th minute when Shane Colegrove rifled a shot from outside the box off an assist from Matthew McDermott.
Orner dropped to 2-3 overall on the season despite turning aside five Lock Haven shots. Cook improved to 2-2-1 on the year and stopped five Huskies' shot attempts. Lock Haven out-shot Bloomsburg, 18-10, for the match with the Huskies holding a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.
Bloomsburg will look to snap the three-game losing skid on Saturday, September 15, when it hosts Gannon University at Steph Pettit Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
