STORYLINE
The Bloomsburg University women's volleyball team will compete in the program's first-ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matches this weekend as the Huskies travel to play at Seton Hill University on Friday night followed by a match at California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon.

HISTORY
Back in March of 2017, Bloomsburg University announced that it was adding women's volleyball as a varsity sport and, three months later, the school hired Dan Kreiger to be the program's first varsity coach. Prior to coming to Bloomsburg, Kreiger spent five seasons – the last four as the head coach – at Lock Haven University from 2011-15. In his four seasons as the head coach at Lock Haven, Kreiger guided the Bald Eagles to an 88-49 overall record and a 55-30 mark against PSAC opponents. Under Kreiger, Lock Haven qualified for the PSAC Tournament in each of his four years at the helm and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2012. The program earned PSAC Eastern Division regular season titles in 2012 and 2014 and was the tournament runner-up in 2012.

The inaugural roster features 28 student-athletes broken up into 23 freshmen, two transfers, and three former members of the Bloomsburg club team. Last month, the Huskies were picked to finish fourth in the PSAC Central Division and, on August 13, the team held its first official practice. Bloomsburg played its first-ever match on August 31 against Grand Valley State and, after suffering a loss to the Lakers, earned the program's first victory with a 3-1 win over Virginia Union later that day. Then, on September 4, the Huskies played their first-ever home match against Chestnut Hill and swept the Griffins in straight sets. On September 8, the Huskies competed against the top-ranked team in the country, Nebraska-Kearney, and gave the Lopers a hard fought effort despite an eventual three-set loss.

SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies enter PSAC play with a 4-5 overall record, earning victories during last weekend's Vulcan Invitational against Southern New Hampshire and West Virginia Wesleyan. Bloomsburg finished the tournament with a 2-2 record and redshirt senior Sarah Gomish (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Carroll Catholic) was named to the All-Tournament Team. Gomish finished the weekend with 63 kills and 44 digs with her best performance coming against West Virginia Wesleyan when she posted 28 kills and 18 digs in a thrilling four-set victory. It marked the second time that Gomish was named to an All-Tournament Team this season after receiving the same honor at the Walsh University Tournament the weekend prior. Sophomore Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) and freshman Emma Van Arsdale (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) also had big weekends. Cianciulli totaled 116 digs in the four matches with 52 of those coming against West Virginia Wesleyan. Her 52 digs marked the sixth-highest total in Division II history during a four-set match. Van Arsdale, meanwhile, posted 138 assists in the four matches while also adding six kills and 22 digs. For the season, Gomish leads the Huskies with 123 kills and has moved to within 10 kills of recording 1,000 for her collegiate career. She leads the PSAC in kills per set (4.39). Freshman Mary Kate Mooney (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) is second with 78 kills on the season while freshman Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) is third with 62. Van Arsdale leads the team in assists (262) and service aces (16). She ranks fifth in the conference in aces per set (0.57) while ranking eighth in assists per set (9.36). Cianciulli leads the Huskies with 204 digs and is second in the PSAC in digs per set (7.03).

SCOUTING SETON HILL
The Griffins are 5-3 on the year but have not played since September 1, when they were in Canton, Ohio, for the Malone Tournament. Seton Hill went 3-1 during that weekend with victories over Daemen, Notre Dame (Ohio), and Malone. Viktoria Farian leads the team with 105 kills and ranks second with 95 digs. She is eighth in the PSAC in kills per set (3.62). Jessica Hanson is tops on the squad with 20 blocks and ranks fourth with 52 kills. Brynn Fleury serves as the team's setter and has posted 223 assists on the year while also leading the team in service aces with nine. Hannah Moeller leads the team with 109 digs.

SCOUTING CALIFORNIA
California enters the weekend with a 7-5 overall record and will open league play on Friday night against Lock Haven University. The Vulcans went 3-1 at their invitational last weekend, earning victories over Notre Dame (Ohio), Southern New Hampshire, and West Virginia Wesleyan. Rachel Priore leads the way with 133 kills, 93 digs, and 13 blocks on the season. Sarah Moehring is also a player to watch as she has contributed 94 kills and 130 digs on the year. Sarah Benson has totaled 403 assists and ranks ninth in the PSAC in assists per set (9.16). Jensen Silbaugh leads the Vulcans in digs with 184 and ranks 12th in the league in digs per set (4.18). As a team, California leads the conference with 89 service aces and ranks fourth in the league in aces per set (2.02).
