Madeira Does It Again; Men's Soccer Wins Third Straight With 2-1 Victory Over Daemen

HTML BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - To say that junior forward Tyler Madeira (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) is rolling would be a severe understatement.

For the second consecutive game, Madeira scored both goals to lift the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team to a 2-1 non-conference victory over visiting Daemen College on Wednesday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium. The win was Bloomsburg's third straight as it improved to 5-4 overall on the season. The Wildcats, meanwhile, dropped to 4-4 on the year. The game was the second meeting between the two schools with the Huskies earning one-goal victories in both contests.

With his two goals on Wednesday, Madeira has now scored each of Bloomsburg's last four goals after he led the Huskies to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over West Chester on Sunday afternoon to snap the Golden Rams' 22-match unbeaten streak in conference play. Over his last three games, Madeira has four goals and two assists for ten points and, with his offensive outburst, has moved into a tie for third in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in goals with five and into a tie for second in points with 12.

Madeira put the Huskies on the board in the 18th minute when he beat Daemen starting goalkeeper Philipp Schmidt on a penalty kick to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Schmidt had to leave the contest with just under five minutes remaining in the first half with an injury. The penalty kick goal was the only tally of the first half with the Huskies outshooting the Wildcats by an 11-4 margin.

Fighting through heavy rain in the second half, Madeira extended the lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute when he chipped a shot from the right wing over the head of Daemen backup goalkeeper, Eithan Hahn. Freshman Bryce Evans (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) earned his first collegiate point with an assist on, what proved to be, the game-winning goal.

The Wildcats, however, would not go quietly as Joe Keem booted a shot past sophomore goalkeeper Brock Gould (York, Pa./Red Lion) for his first goal of the season in the 74th minute to cut the Huskies' lead to 2-1. Torrential rains continued to pour down on the turf at Steph Pettit Stadium as the Wildcats continued to maintain heavy pressure on the Huskies over the waning minutes. Daemen had four shots and two corner kicks over the last 12 minutes of regulation but Gould and the Huskies were able to keep the visitors off the board to preserve the one-goal win.

After losing his first start of the year, Gould won his third straight decision to improve to 3-1 on the season. He was credited with three saves in the win - his lowest output of the season. Hahn was saddled with the loss as he fell to 0-1. He and Schmidt combined for five saves on the day with the other coming by way of a defensive save from Aiden Tolley who robbed junior Matt Goodall (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) in the 20th minute with Schmidt well out of position.

Bloomsburg held a 20-13 advantage in shot attempts after both teams had nine shots apiece in the second half. Daemen, meanwhile, held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.

The Huskies will return to action on Wednesday, October 3, when they travel to Shippenburg University to battle the Raiders in a conference matchup. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
