LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The tenth-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team got a pair of goals from senior
Erica Krebs (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and single tallies from junior
Ali McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech), sophomore
Alyssa Broadt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg), and freshman
Madilyn McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) as the Huskies blanked Bellarmine University, 5-0, on Monday to improve to 2-0 on the young season. The Knights dropped to 1-1 overall.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Hannah Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) stopped a career-high eight shots she faced to improve to 2-0 on the season. It was her first shutout of the season and the second of her career with her first coming at Mansfield back on October 11, 2017.
Krebs jump-started the offense with her second goal of the season just 5:15 into the contest to give the Huskies a 1-0 advantage. She scored the Huskies' second goal of the game during Saturday's 3-2 shootout victory over Lindenwood.
Just over nine minutes later, on a Huskies' penalty corner,
Ali McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) extended the advantage to 2-0 with her first goal of the season as she redirected a shot from junior
Tesa Hoffman (Freeburg, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) past Bellarmine goalkeeper Heather Gregory. Hoffman was credited with the assist.
Krebs buried her second goal of the game, and third of the season, with just 20 seconds left in the first half to build the lead to 3-0. Junior
Willow Perkins (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) centered a pass into the circle and found Krebs on the doorstep and the senior did the rest to give the Huskies a three-goal lead heading into intermission.
The offense kept rolling following the break as sophomore
Alyssa Broadt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) ballooned the lead to 4-0 just over nine minutes into the second half. The Huskies moved the ball quickly up the field and an outlet pass from
Madilyn McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) found Broadt in the circle who then beat Gregory for her second collegiate goal.
Madilyn McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) then notched her first collegiate goal with just under 11 minutes left as she beat Bellarmine backup netminder, Breanna McWhorter. Hoffman picked up her second assist of the afternoon on the final goal of the day.
Bloomsburg held advantages in both shots (25-11) and penalty corners (11-4) on the afternoon. Bellarmine, which upset seventh-ranked Saint Anselm on Friday, got a combined 11 saves from Gregory and McWhorter in the loss. Gregory was saddled with the decision as she fell to 1-1 on the year.
Bloomsburg will have a dozen days off before returning to action on Saturday, September 15, when it heads to Greensburg, Pennsylvania, to take on the Griffins of Seton Hill University. Start time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
