BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team opened competition at the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on Saturday. The Huskies had three competitors in singles action and had two doubles teams compete during day one of the three-day event.

In singles, junior Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) advanced to the round of 16 after an opening round 6-3, 6-4 victory over Millersville's Jasmine Morris but then dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match to California's Jo Weisen for an opportunity to compete in the quarterfinals which get underway on Sunday morning. Bloomsburg's other two singles participants - juniors Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) - suffered straight-set losses in the round of 32.

Calimer and Nery did team up for an opening round, 8-2, victory over Clarion's duo of Alivia Arnold and Vinisha Reddy but fell in the quarterfinals, by the final of 8-4, to Katya Minchenkova and Julia Newman from IUP. Capoferri and sophomore teammate Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) dropped their opening round match to IUP's Mariana Valenzuela and Thais Andreottia, 8-2.

The tournament will continue on Sunday morning with the doubles semifinals beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed by the singles quarterfinals at 10:45 a.m. Both the singles and doubles finals will be held on Monday morning.
