Women's Soccer Gets Back On Track With 2-0 Win At California Saturday

HTML BOX SCORE

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - Senior Taylor Sneidman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and sophomore Alex Burrows (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) each scored second-half goals to lift the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory at California on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest. The Huskies improved to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play while the Vulcans dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in league action.

Despite out-shooting California, 9-2, in the opening half, the Huskies could not solve Vulcan goalkeeper Gianna Siantra in the first 45 minutes of action. In fact, Bloomsburg did not dent the scoreboard until Sneidman scored her second goal of the season, booting home a rebound past Sinatra in the 61st minute to give the Huskies a 1-0 advantage. The goal proved to be the game-winning tally - Sneidman's second game-winning marker of the year.

Just over ten minutes later, in the 71st minute, Burrows notched her first career goal in a Bloomsburg uniform after she headed home a corner kick opportunity from sophomore Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) into the top left corner of the net. Burrows played her freshman season at James Madison University. Meanwhile, the assist was Hoelke's first point of the year after scoring three goals and three assists for nine points as a freshman a season ago.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Hawkins (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) posted her third shutout of the young season and her second of the year without having to make a save. She improved to 3-1 overall and lowered her goals against average to 0.50. Sinatra suffered the loss to drop to 1-1 on the season and was credited with five saves. The Huskies outshot California, 16-2, and held a significant 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Bloomsburg will return to Steph Pettit Stadium on Wednesday, September 12, when it tangles with Lock Haven University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
