STORYLINE
• The first-place Huskies take a three-game win streak on the road this weekend when they face PSAC East foe Mansfield Saturday afternoon. Bloomsburg enters the contest in sole possession of first place in the PSAC East at 8-3, and 12-6 overall, and have won five of their last six games.
ALL-TIME SERIES
• Bloomsburg has dominated the all-time series with Mansfield, leading the Mountaineers 63-10 overall. The two split a pair of regular season meetings in 2017-18, but the Huskies hold an 8-2 advantage over the last five seasons.Â
1,000 POINT CLUB
•
Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) became the 22nd player in program history to score 1,000 points for her career in Wednesday's win over Seton Hill. The senior reached the milestone midway through the second quarter when she sliced through the lane for a bucket, much to the joy of the home crowd on hand. Sixth in program history in career made three-pointers (150), Mack averages 13.3 points per game and is ranked ninth in the PSAC in free throw percentage (81.9%) this season.
LAST TIME OUT
• Mack and
Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) both notched 20-point performances as the Huskies downed Seton Hill 85-82 at home Wednesday night. Saxton stuffed the stat sheet once again for the Huskies, shooting 8-of-13 from the floor and adding nine rebounds and six assists.
Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while
Megan Brandt (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) added 14 points and nine rebounds.
THE HUSKIES AT A GLANCE
• Saxton has been one of the most efficient scorers in Division II this season. She is shooting 58.7% from the field, which ranks second in the PSAC, and 14th nationally. The sophomore is averaging a team-high 19.2 points per game over her last five games, and has posted double figures in each of her last 10 games. Saxton is tied for the team-lead in points per game this season at 13.3, and second on the team in rebounds per game (5.1).
• Montana has been a force around the basket for Bloomsburg, ranking eighth in the conference in rebounds per game (7.6) and sixth in blocked shots (18). The junior is third on the team in scoring, pouring in 12.8 points per game.
• Defense has been the calling card for the Huskies this season, as they rank second in the PSAC in opponent field goal percentage (37.4%) and three-point percentage defense (27.0%). Bloomsburg allows just 61.9 points per game, which ranks third in the conference.
SCOUTING MANSFIELD
• 2018-19 has been a rebuilding year for the Mountaineers, who enter Saturday's game at just 1-14, 1-11 in the PSAC. Mansfield's lone with of the season came last Wednesday, January 16, in a surprise upset of Kutztown. The Mountaineers have dropped their last two contests to Slippery Rock and Shippensburg, but hope a second signature win over a tough PSAC East opponent in Bloomsburg will jump start a strong second half of the season.Â
• Mia Leonard has been a force inside for the Mountaineers this season. The 6-3 sophomore leads the PSAC in blocked shots (34), is fifth in the conference in rebounding (8.8 per game), and is second on the team in scoring (8.4 points per game). Sophomore Erin Gibbons paces Mansfield with 11.5 points per contest, while McKenzie Hatch leads the team in assists at 3.1 per game.
• Mansfield has struggled to shoot the ball this season, ranking last in the conference in field goal percentage (35.1%) and 15th in three-point percentage (27.9%). The Mountaineers rank last in the PSAC in scoring offense (54.3) and scoring margin (19.5), but have been strong around the basket, ranking third in blocked shots (4.2 per game) and seventh in defensive rebounds (27.2 per game).
UP NEXT
• The Huskies continue a two-game road trip next Wednesday, January 30, against Shippensburg. Bloomsburg returns home on Saturday, February 2, to host West Chester. Tip-off with the Raiders on Wednesday is set for 6:00 p.m.
