STORYLINE
The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team looks to assume sole possession of first place in the PSAC East when it hosts Kutztown on Saturday afternoon. Both teams enter the matchup with identical 4-2 records in the PSAC after the Huskies defeated Lock Haven 77-58 on Wednesday night.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
Bloomsburg leads the all-time series with Kutztown 71-25, but were defeated by the Golden Bears, 70-63, in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament a season ago. The teams split of pair of regular season meetings in 2017-18, with Huskies holding a 9-3 advantage over the past five seasons.

SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies kicked off the 2019 calendar year with an impressive 77-58 victory over Lock Haven on Wednesday night. Bloomsburg improved to 8-5 overall with the win, and are tied for first place in the PSAC East at 4-2 entering Saturday's game. Junior Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) was dominant for the Huskies in Wednesday's game, tallying a career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds. The forward is second on the team in scoring (12.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg), and has notched a team-high 12 blocks. Montana's efforts have anchored a Bloomsburg defense that is third in the PSAC in scoring defense (allowing just 54.9 points per game) and opponent field goal percentage (36.7%) this season. Senior Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) leads the team in scoring at 14.5 points per contest, and has reached double figures in six of the last seven games. Mack is second in the conference in three-point percentage (43.8%) and seventh in free throw percentage (84.1%) this season. Following a 14-point output against Lock Haven, Mack is just 39 points away from reaching the 1,000-point milestone for her career. Sophomore Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) chips in 11.1 points per game for the Huskies, while junior Bella Ricci (Etters, Pa./Red Land) adds 8.2 points per game and is a sparkling 90.9% from the charity stripe this season. As a team, Bloomsburg is fifth in the PSAC in three-point percentage (34.1%)  and sixth in assist/turnover ratio (+0.91).

SCOUTING KUTZTOWN
The Golden Bears are in a tie for first place in the PSAC East (6-7 overall, 4-2 PSAC) and are riding a three-game win steak entering Saturday's game. Kutztown tipped off PSAC East play with a 76-66 win over West Chester on December 29, and notched a 68-56 win over Holy Family in non-conference action this past Wednesday. Sophomore Rylee Derr leads the team in scoring (18.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg) this season, and is third in the PSAC in made three-pointers per game (3.1). Junior Karen Lapkiewicz, who scored a game-high 18 points in Kutztown's victory over Bloomsburg in the PSAC Tournament last season, adds 10.2 points per game and is a team-best 41.3% from behind the arc this season. Brianna Tarabocchia (7.5 ppg), Taylor Thames (6.4 ppg), and Kalee Fuegel (team-high 30 steals) round out the starting lineup for the Golden Bears. As a team, Kutztown allows just 63.7 points per game, which is good for fifth in the PSAC. 

UP NEXT
The Huskies hit the road next Saturday, January 12, for a matchup with PSAC East foe West Chester. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. Kutztown will return home on January 9 to host Edinboro.
