CALIFORNIA, Pa. - Sophomore
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) posted a triple-double on Friday night but it wasn't quite enough as the Bloomsburg University women's volleyball team fell in four sets at Cal U in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest. The Huskies dropped to 6-12 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC Central while the Vulcans improved to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the PSAC Southwest.
Cal U won the first two sets by the scores of 25-20 and 25-23 before the Huskies forced a fourth set by winning the third, 25-23. The Vulcans, however, put the match away, 25-15, in the fourth set.
The hosts led 21-8 in the opening set before the Huskies went on a frenetic comeback by scoring nine of the next ten points to close the deficit to 22-17. The teams exchanged points the rest of the way with Bloomsburg getting to within four, 24-20, before Cal U scored the final point to hold off the Huskies' comeback effort. The second set was close throughout with neither team leading by more than four points but, when the dust settled, the Vulcans emerged victorious with a 25-23 victory.
Bloomsburg jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the third set and eventually built the advantage to 19-14 before the Vulcans went on a little run to pull even at 22-22. Cal U, however, shot themselves in the foot with a pair of attack errors and a service error as the Huskies took the third by a 25-23 final. In the fourth, Bloomsburg kept it close and managed to tie the set at 9-9 before Cal U closed with a 16-6 run to win by 10 and to end the night.
Buell did some of everything on Friday night as she filled the box score with 10 kills, 13 digs, and 13 assists for the program's first-ever triple-double. The sophomore added a service ace and an assisted block to account for 11.5 points on the evening. Sophomore
Mary Kate Mooney (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) led Bloomsburg with 11 kills while chipping in 13 digs for her third double-double of the year. Sophomore
Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) added 10 kills, six digs, and three assisted blocks to tie Buell for the team-lead in points with 11.5.

Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) paced the Huskies with 21 assists and added 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. Junior
Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) was up to her old tricks, posting a match-high 30 digs on the defensive end.
The Huskies were held to just an .073 hitting percentage on the night while Cal U hit .164. Sarah Moehring led the Vulcans with 15 kills and 14 digs while Kaylin Burkey also had a double-double with 12 kills and a team-high 27 digs.
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, October 12, when it travels to Seton Hill University. Start time against the Griffins is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
