BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University field hockey team suffered its fourth overtime loss of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Huskies fell to visiting Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) by a 2-1 final at Steph Pettit Stadium. The Huskies dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standings while the Crimson Hawks improved to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in league play.
After a scoreless first half, the Huskies struck first when sophomore
Foto Tsioles (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) buried her team-leading sixth goal of the season when she beat IUP goalkeeper Lexi Ciano on a breakaway opportunity in the 37th minute. Junior
Cheyenne Ott (Mount Bethel, Pa./Bangor) threaded the needle with a perfect pass between a pair of IUP defenders and Tsioles finished with a forehand sweep past Ciano. Tsioles has scored more than one-third of Bloomsburg's goals this season and has the most goals by a Bloomsburg player in a single year since MacKenna Mahan scored 11 in 2017.
But, just 53 seconds into the fourth quarter, IUP's Brianna Lubarsky tipped a centering pass from Blaise Cugini past Bloomsburg goalkeeper
Hannah Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) to tie the game at 1-1. It was Lubarsky's sixth goal of the year.
IUP's Lizzi Clemmer ended the contest 2:30 into the first overtime when she scored off of a penalty corner from Kimberly Kelly. It was Clemmer's second goal of the season and dropped the Huskies to 1-4 in overtime games this season.
After her sensational second half against West Chester on Wednesday, Barnard was given the start - her first start since the season opener against Bellarmine on September 8 - and turned aside five shots while seeing her record drop to 0-2 on the season. Ciano did not make a save as she moved to 6-5 overall on the year. The Huskies scored on their only shot attempt of the afternoon while IUP finished with ten shot attempts against Barnard - seven on goal. The Crimson Hawks also led in penalty corner opportunities, 7-2.
The Huskies will now embark on a three-game road swing beginning on Wednesday, October 16, when they head to East Stroudsburg for a 4:00 p.m. start. Bloomsburg will not return home until Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, October 26, when it hosts Slippery Rock at Steph Pettit Stadium.
