Men's Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision To Visiting East Stroudsburg Saturday Afternoon

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback at the hands of visiting East Stroudsburg University on Saturday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium in a battle of two teams competing for a postseason berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division. The Huskies dropped to 5-8 overall and 4-4 in the division while the Warriors improved to 7-3-3 overall and 4-3-1 against divisional opponents. East Stroudsburg moved one point ahead of Bloomsburg in a race for the final playoff spot in the division with four games remaining.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Nathan Slotnick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and the Bloomsburg defense kept the visitors at bay until late in the 40th minute when Bradley Turocy received a pass from Marcus Torgersson and scored on a low shot just out of the reach of the Huskies' netminder for a 1-0 advantage. Shots favored East Stroudsburg in the opening half, 7-4.

The score remained the same until the 72nd minute as the Warriors extended the margin to 2-0 as Sergio Bortolon scored on a similar play that Turocy netted his marker late in the first half. Hubert Herrera had the assist. Turocy then sealed the Huskies' fate with 21 seconds left in regulation as he finished off a chip pass from Anton Lysell and then beat Slotnick for the final goal of the contest.

East Stroudsburg finished with a 21-12 edge in shots and held a slight 4-3 margin in corner kick opportunities. Junior Kacper Grycel (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) led Bloomsburg with four shot attempts on the afternoon.

Slotnick saw his record fall to 2-3 on the season as he was credited with seven saves on the day. Evan Miele earned the shutout victory for the Warriors with a three-save performance. He improved to 7-3-3 on the year.

Bloomsburg will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, October 23, when it travels to Shepherd University for an important divisional matchup against the Rams. Action gets underway at 3:30 p.m.
