Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team concluded the fall portion of the season in style on Saturday as the Huskies knocked off visiting Davis & Elkins College, 6-1, at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. Bloomsburg wraps up the fall with a 4-0 overall record while the Senators wrapped up their fall campaign with a 3-2 record.
The Huskies earned the doubles point by winning all three matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles action. Freshmen
Luana Bernardi (Aruja, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and
Sarah Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) earned a default win at #3 and then senior
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) paired with junior
Giovanna Bonito (Pindamonhangaba, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) for a 6-2 win at #2 to secure the doubles point. Seniors
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Teresina, Piaui, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory at #1.
Bloomsburg went on to win five of the six singles matches on the day with only Davis & Elkins' Laura Vargas at #1 preventing a shutout.
Sarah Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) opened with a default victory which was followed by Bernardi's 6-0, 6-0 victory at #3 to extend the Huskies' advantage to 3-0. Bonito secured the Bloomsburg win with a 6-0, 6-4 victory at #4 over Elysia Cain. Nery posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 and then
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) needed three sets at #2 before taking care of Ester Bolmenas - 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 - for the Huskies' final individual win of the day.
The Huskies are scheduled to open the spring season with its annual trip to Orlando, Florida, in early March.
