LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback at Lock Haven University on Saturday night in a crucial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest. The Huskies dropped to 6-9 overall and 5-5 in the PSAC East while the Bald Eagles improved to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in divisional play.
With East Stroudsburg not playing on Saturday, the Huskies kept a two-point lead over the Warriors for third place in the division while Lock Haven moved to within three points of the Huskies in the three-team race for the final playoff spot. The Warriors, however, have two games-in-hand against Bloomsburg and Lock Haven has one game-in-hand against the Huskies.
After a scoreless first half, the Bald Eagles struck in the 60th minute when Zane Puhala received a cross from Kemali Green and then beat Bloomsburg redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Nathan Slotnick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) for a 1-0 lead. Andrea DiSomma followed eight minutes later with a penalty kick goal to extend the Lock Haven advantage to 2-0. DiSomma finished off the scoring with his second goal of the night - and league-leading 15th of the season - when he beat Slotnick after tracking down a loose ball in the box. Matthew McDermott had the assist.
Despite the outcome, the match was evenly played as Lock Haven held very slim margins in shots, 13-11, and corner kick opportunities, 7-6. Slotnick, however, dropped to 3-4 on the season as he was credited with three saves on the night. Lock Haven's Camden Cook improved to 6-5 on the year with a three-save shutout performance.
The Huskies will step out of conference play for the final time this season as they head to Daemen on Tuesday, October 29, for a 3:00 p.m. Bloomsburg will then close out the regular season with a pair of crucial conference matches against the top two teams in the division - at West Chester on Wednesday, November 6, and then at home against Millersville on Saturday, November 9.
