AMHERST, NY – The Bloomsburg men's soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Daemen 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon in a small break from Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action. The Huskies improved to 7-10 on the year while the Wildcats slipped to 0-15 for the season.
Â
Bloomsburg's freshman
Stephen Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) wasted little time in the first half as he buried his second goal of the year just 52 seconds into action. The Wildcats goalie Jarrett Lecceadone made four saves over the next 19 minutes before being replaced with Eithan Hahn in net. The Huskies immediately tried to test Hahn but junior
Carter Luckenbaugh's (York, Pa./Central York) shot went out high in the 21
st minute. At the 21:43 mark, senior
Evan Novian (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was able to put a shot on target thanks to a pass from Hollis as Novian found himself with the ball in front of an empty net with the goalie pulled out. Novian sent home his third goal of the season to give Bloomsburg a 2-0 lead.
Â
The Bloomsburg defense did not allow the Wildcats to get a shot off for the rest of the half and The Huskies led 2-0 at the intermission.
Â
Freshman
Foti Malitas (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) took the first shot of the second half for Bloomsburg and made it count as he put the Huskies up 3-0 with just under 40 minutes to play with his second goal of the season.
Â
The Wildcats were able to get one back as Derek Bartlo found the back of the net 3:29 later to cut the lead down to 3-1. Malitas made sure to keep a comfortable cushion for the Huskies as he scored his third goal of the year and second of the day just over 10 minutes later to push the Bloomsburg lead back to three at 4-1.
Â
After Malitas goal, the Huskies were able to put together two more shots, neither of which were on target before the Wildcats cut the lead back down to two, 4-2. A foul on Bloomsburg inside the 18-yard box set up a penalty kick for Daemen and Craig Buchanan buried his chance for the goal with less than 14 minutes to play.
Â
The Huskies put three more shots on target but were turned away each time as they hung on for the 4-2 win in Amherst, NY.
Â
Bloomsburg out-shot the Wildcats 21-11, including a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Huskies also led in corner kicks, 5-3.
Â
Redshirt freshman
Nathan Slotnick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) played all 90 minutes in goal for Bloomsburg and improved to 4-4 on the year with the win. Slotnick made two saves in the contest. Hahn took the loss for Daeman and dropped to 0-7 for the season after making six saves.
Â
Bloomsburg returns to PSAC East play next Wednesday, November 6 as the Huskies travel to West Chester for a 2:30 p.m. conference match up.
