WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team allowed a pair of second-half goals which snapped a 1-1 halftime tie as the Huskies dropped a 3-1 decision at West Chester University on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, Bloomsburg dropped to 7-10 overall and 5-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division while the Golden Rams took over the top spot in the division as they improved to 13-3-1 overall and 9-2-1 against divisional foes.
The Huskies scored the opening goal of the match when freshman
Stephen Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) continued his fine rookie season by notching his third goal of the season with 7:20 left in the first half. Redshirt sophomore
Olly Whitham (Clitheroe, Lancashire, England/Settle College) picked up his third assist of the season on Hollis' marker. In his first season in a Bloomsburg uniform, Hollis ranks third on the team in scoring with three goals and five assists for 11 points on the year.
Unfortunately for Bloomsburg, it was all West Chester after that point as a late first-half goal from the Golden Rams' Eric Greer notched the match at 1-1 and gave the hosts the momentum entering the second half. Greer scored his second goal of the year as he beat redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Nathan Slotnick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) with 2:46 left in the opening 45 minutes.
Josh Daniels gave the Golden Rams the lead for good in the 58th minute when he scored his third goal of the year off of an assist from Stephen Thompson and then Thompson provided some insurance for the hosts nine minutes later when he potted his fourth goal of the year.
Slotnick turned aside three shots in the setback as he dropped to 4-5 overall on the season. His counterpart, Daniel Good, was credited with one save on the afternoon for the Golden Rams as he saw his record improve to 12-3-1 on the season. West Chester held a 15-6 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 margin in the second half, and also maintained a slight 4-2 edge in corner kick opportunities on the day.
The Huskies, who were eliminated from postseason play with Wednesday's setback, will close out the 2019 season on Saturday, November 9, when they entertain Millersville University at Steph Pettit Stadium. Bloomsburg will honor ten seniors prior to opening kickoff which is slated for 3:30 p.m. -
