WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Seniors
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) of the Bloomsburg University women's tennis team were eliminated from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Singles Championships in the round of 16 on Sunday afternoon at the Central Pennsylvania Tennis Center. The tournament had to be moved indoors due to rain in the area on Sunday.
After an opening round 6-0, 6-0 win over Shepherd's Ally Frushour on Saturday, Capoferri ran into top-seeded and defending champion Lacey Cohen from Slippery Rock on Sunday in the round of 16. The Huskies' senior battled but ultimately fell in straight sets - 6-1, 6-3 - to get eliminated from the tournament.
Calimer suffered the same fate on Sunday after knocking off Edinboro's Torye Calleja - 6-1, 6-3 - on Saturday. In her round of 16 match on Sunday, Calimer took on Slippery Rock's Lois Page and fell in straight sets by the scores of 6-2, 6-1, to end her run in the tournament.
The women's final will be held on Monday, October 7, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Central Pennsylvania Tennis Center. The match will feature Viola Lugmayr from Slippery Rock and Joanna Stralka from IUP.
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Friday, October 11, against Clarion University at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. Action gets underway at 4:00 p.m.
