#6 Women's Soccer Ties West Chester in PSAC East Match Up

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Bloomsburg University women's soccer team had to settle for a 0-0 double overtime tie with West Chester University, Wednesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action. The Huskies improved to 15-1-1 on the year and 13-1-1 in conference action. The Golden Rams moved to 11-3-2 on the year and 10-3-2 for PSAC East play.

Bloomsburg remains undefeated in the last 14 games and have held opponents scoreless in the last five contests. The last goal redshirt junior Jenna Hawkins (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) allowed came in the 36th minute against Shippensburg back on October 16. The Husky defense and Hawkins have posted 524:37 minutes of scoreless soccer since then.

West Chester had the first real chance on goal as the Golden Rams were awarded a penalty kick after a hand ball was called on the Huskies inside the 18-yard box. The PK attempted by Hannah Zach was stopped by Hawkins and careened back into play. Kaleigh Harmon collected the rebound but her subsequent shot went high and the team teams went into the break scoreless.

The second half played much like the first as West Chester seemed to control the offense but could not find the back of the net despite seven shots, three on target, in the second period. Madison Baxter had arguably the best shot of the day as she curved a ball from the far corner of the box toward the upper right corner of the net but Hawkins made an equally impressive save as she timed her jump perfectly and punched the ball away.

Senior Megan Callan (Eldersburg, Md./Century) found herself on a breakaway in front of the Golden Rams net in the 93rd minute but Brooke Myers made the save to keep the Huskies off of the board. West Chester took the next four shot, all were wide, and the game went into the final 10 minutes of action scoreless.

Sophomore Paige Harris (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) got a shot off in front of the net in the 105th minute but it deflected off of her teammate and went wide. WCU took a pair of shots in the 110th minute as time was expiring but couldn't keep them on target and the final horn sounded with the score 0-0.

The tie is the first of the season for Bloomsburg and second for the Golden Rams.

West Chester out-shot the Huskies 22-4 for the game as it was just the second time this season the Huskies were outshot by their opponent. Callan led Bloomsburg with a pair of shots.

Hawkins improved to 15-1-1 in net as she made a season-high eight saves for her 10th shutout of the season. Myers moved to 9-3-2 on the year with her fourth solo shutout after making a pair of saves.

The #6 Huskies return home on Saturday for the PSAC East regular season finale as they host Millersville for a 1:00 p.m. contest. Bloomsburg has clinched their spot in the PSAC tournament and is the top team in the East. Millersville has two games left in the regular season and have clinched a spot in the playoffs as well.
