THE STORY
• The first place Huskies return home to host Cheyney in non-conference action Wednesday night at the Nelson Field House. Bloomsburg reclaimed sole possession of the top spot in the PSAC East with a win over Lock Haven Saturday, and became the first team in the Eastern division to clinch a berth in the 2019 PSAC Tournament.
THE HISTORY: BLOOMSBURG vs. CHEYNEY
• Bloomsburg leads the all-time series with Cheyney 51-15, including a pair of victories over the Wolves in 2017-18. In all, the Huskies have won three straight dating back to a 59-48 win for Cheyney on January 3, 2017.
Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) averaged a team-high 23.0 points per game in last season's sweep of the Wolves.
LAST TIME OUT
•
Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) scored a game-high 24 points as the Huskies defeated Lock Haven 66-47 on the road Saturday. Bloomsburg's vaunted defense held Lock Haven to just 36.2% shooting from the field, and 2-of-11 (18.2%) from behind the arc.
Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) chipped in 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting with six rebounds and five assists, while
Megan Brandt (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
THE HUSKIES AT A GLANCE
• Montana continued her sensational start to the month of February with 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting, and six rebounds. The junior has posted double figures scoring in nine consecutive games, and now leads the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game. Montana ranks fourth in the PSAC in field goal percentage (54.2%), 10th in the PSAC in rebounding (7.5), and sixth in blocked shots (24).
• Saxton kept her streak of double figures scoring alive with 10 points in Saturday's win. The sophomore pours in 13.2 points per game, and is second in rebounding at 5.0 per game. Saxton is shooting a blistering 58.3% from the field, which ranks third in the PSAC, and 17th in all of Division II. She has notched double-digits in her last 16 games.
• Mack continues to etch her name in the Huskies career record books this season. The senior is 22nd on the Bloomsburg all-time scoring list (1,055 career points), and is just four three-pointers away from passing Jen German (158) for sixth place on the school's career made three's list. Mack leads the team in three-point percentage (36.4%) this season, and ranks third in the PSAC in free throw percentage (85.4%).
• The Huskies defense continues to stifle opponents this season, ranking second in the PSAC in opponent field goal percentage (38.1%) and third in three-point percentage defense (28.3%). Bloomsburg allows just 61.6 points per game, which ranks third in the conference, and are fifth in the PSAC in scoring margin (+4.8).
LOOKING AHEAD
• With the win and a loss by Kutztown to West Chester Saturday, Bloomsburg reclaimed sole possession of first place in the PSAC East with just four conference games remaining in the regular season. The Huskies also earned the right to host a first round PSAC Tournament matchup, and can finish no worse than fourth in the East. Bloomsburg hits the road for a pair of PSAC East contests at Millersville and East Stroudsburg next week, before wrapping up the regular season with back-to-back home games against Mansfield and Shippensburg.
