Women's Basketball Cruises to 74-48 Win Over Cheyney

HTML BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG, PA - Megan Brandt (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) tallied 12 points and six rebounds as the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team downed visiting Cheyney 74-48 Wednesday night. The Huskies improved to 17-7 overall with the victory, and remain undefeated at the Nelson Field House with an 11-0 record.

Brandt led a trio of Huskies in double figures scoring Wednesday, as Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) poured in a team-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, and Darcy Lee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) added 12 points, three boards, and a pair of assists. Saxton has now scored in double figures in her last 17 games, and is shooting a sterling 58.7% from the floor on the season.

All 12 players in uniform scored for the Huskies, who shot 48.3% from the floor and 4-of-14 from three-point territory in the win. The vaunted Bloomsburg defense was on display as well, limiting Cheyney to just 48 points on 20-of-58 (34.5%) shooting from the field, and just 2-of-11 (18.2%) from behind the arc.

The Huskies were dominant from the opening tip, using a 15-1 run that spanned over seven minutes to take a 23-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Bloomsburg continued to roll in the second quarter, shooting a blistering 72.7% (8-of-11) from the floor en route to a 45-19 lead at the half.

Bloomsburg's lead would balloon to as large as 33 late in the third quarter on a pair of free throws from Tehya Hosey (Lemoyne, Pa./Cedar Cliff), and back-to-back buckets from Shirley Piotrowski (Newtown Square, Pa./Delaware County Christian School) and Amanda Arellano (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel) would salt away the victory for the Huskies.

Hosey posted eight points and five rebounds, while Piotrowski notched the first points of her young career and finished with seven points. Marlon Herring and Jamyra Maye had 14 points apiece to pace the Wolves, and Gianni Hill added 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

The Huskies return to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action this weekend in sole possession of first place in the PSAC East with just four regular season games remaining. Bloomsburg hits the road to face Millersville this Saturday and East Stroudsburg next Wednesday, before wrapping up the regular season with back-to-back home games against Mansfield and Shippensburg. Tip-off with the Marauders Saturday is set for 1:00 p.m.
