ORLANDO, FL -
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) notched a 6-1, 6-4 singles victory in the deciding match to give the Bloomsburg University women's tennis team a 4-3 victory over Immaculata University Monday afternoon. With the win, the Huskies improve to 3-0 on their six-match trip to Orlando, Florida.
Knotted at 3-3 with just one match remaining, Wentz would lock up Bloomsburg's third victory in the last two days with an impressive 6-1, 6-4 win over Morgan Jacob at #3 singles. The Huskies trailed 3-2 through four singles matches, but
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) would set the table for Wentz with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Susan Callahan at #2.
Bloomsburg rolled through the doubles competition, as all three Huskies pairings notched 6-1 victories. Nery and
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) defeated Jacob and Caleigh Masterman #1 doubles, while
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) defeated Callahan and Caitlin Savage at #2.
Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) and Isabella rounded out the doubles sweep with win at #3.
The Mighty Macs would punch back in the singles portion of the match, building a 2-1 lead thanks to wins from Jess Dougherty at #6 and Liz Lipscomb at #5. Cerra knotted the match at 2-2 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Savage at #4, but Masterman regained control for Immaculata with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 win over Calimer at #1. The Macs' run would end there however, as Nery and Wentz rolled to victories in their respective matches to secure the 4-3 win for the Huskies.
Bloomsburg's men's and women's teams both return to action Tuesday morning against Bentley. First serve is set for 8:00 a.m.
