ORLANDO, FL -
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) notched a pair of wins to propel the Bloomsburg University women's tennis team to a 5-2 win over Bentley University Tuesday morning. The Huskies have now won four consecutive matches to open the 2019 spring season.
Calimer and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) got Bloomsburg on the board quickly with a 6-0 win over Hannah Fabianski and Katie Tynan at #1 singles, while
Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) and
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) locked up the doubles point for the Huskies with a 6-1 win over Morgan Kreiss and Cindy Luo at #3. Evann Welty would Alessa Matuty would notch Bentley's lone doubles win with a 6-2 victory over
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg).
Fabianski would knot the team match at 1-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Capoferri at #1 singles, but three straight Bloomsburg wins from
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area), Sarquis, and Calimer would salt away the victory for the Huskies. Wentz downed Kreiss 6-2, 6-2 at #5, Sarquis defeated Luo 6-2, 6-1 at #6, while Calimer capped the run with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Welty at #2.
Matuty notched Bentley's only other point with a victory over Nery at #2 singles, but Bonito would cap the impressive morning with a 1-6, 7-6, 10-8 triumph over Tynan at #4.
The Huskies return to the court tomorrow afternoon to take on Dickinson College. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
