Lacrosse Suffers First Setback in 17-7 Loss to Queens University of Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC - Freshman Kelsey Kilgallon (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) tied a career-high with two goals, but the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the 2019 season Wednesday, falling 17-7 to 18th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte. The loss drops the Huskies to 3-1 on the young season, while the Royals improve to 4-2 overall.

Queens University was sharp from the opening draw, racing out to a 7-0 lead midway through the first half. Seven different Royals scored in the run, highlighted by a goal and an assist from Ally Blood.

The Huskies would chip away at the lead with goals from Kilgallon and Allison Bardman (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area), but a 3-2 close to the half would give Queens University a 10-4 lead at the intermission.

The Royals lead would swell to as large as 10 midway through the second half after back-to-back goals from Kyleigh Masteran, and Taylor Quade would extend the lead to 11 with a goal at the 8:30 mark. Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township) would score the game's final goal with 7:03 remaining in the second half, but the Huskies were unable to mount a late comeback.

Chase Brokaw got the start in the cage for Queens and tallied 10 saves. Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) got the nod for Bloomsburg and recorded 14 saves in the loss. Kara Blanchard paced the Royals offensively with four goals and an assist, while Rachel Perrett finished with three goals and an assist. Bardman and Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) each had a goal and an assist for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg will look to get back on track this Saturday, March 16, at Mercyhurst. The Huskies will remain on the road next Tuesday, March 19, at Shippensburg. First draw with the Lakers is set for 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
