ORLANDO, FL - The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team notched their fifth consecutive victory to start the spring season when the Huskies downed Dickinson 7-0 Wednesday afternoon. Bloomsburg has been dominant during its spring break trip to Orlando, outscoring opponents 27-8 in the five matches.
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) got the party started with a 6-3 victory over Lexi Epstein and Emily Sprague at #2 doubles, and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) and
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) locked up the doubles point for the Huskies with a 6-2 win over Rachel Flame and Olivia Shea at #1.
Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy)Â and
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) would complete the doubles sweep with a 6-6 (7-3) triumph over Hanna Butler and Neve Brennan at #3.
It took just three singles matches for the Huskies to clinch the team victory, as Capoferri rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Flame at #1, Bonito defeated Sprague 6-1, 6-4 at #4, and
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) notched a three-set win (6-1, 0-6, 10-3) over Lydia Fox at #5. Wins from Calimer (6-1, 6-4), Sarquis (6-2, 6-3), and Nery (7-5, 6-1) would secure the shutout for Bloomsburg.
Sarquis is now has a perfect 8-0 record on the Orlando trip, while Wentz is 4-1 this spring. The Huskies will wrap up a series of six matches in five days tomorrow when they take on Ithaca. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
