Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport)'s game-tying three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning highlighted a two-game sweep of Catawba College for the Bloomsburg University softball team Thursday afternoon. The Huskies downed the Indians 4-3 in eight innings in game two, and notched a 2-1 victory in game one. Bloomsburg improves to 3-6 on the young season with the wins, while Catawba falls to 11-8 overall.

Trailing 3-0 an in desperate need of a comeback in the seventh inning of game two, Kelsey Impink (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) would jump-start a two-out rally when she legged out a single to the shortstop, and Emily Getz (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) would follow with a single to set the stage for Wheeland's heroics. The All-American mashed her first homer of the season to deep center field to knot it at 3-3 and send game two into extra innings.

It would not take long for the Huskies to capitalize on the new life, as Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) roped a single down the right field line to bring in the eventual game-winning run. Catawba would threaten in the bottom half of the inning when a walk loaded the bases with two outs, but Abby Wild (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) worked out of the jam to earn the victory for Bloomsburg.

The win was Wild's second of the day, as the sophomore hurled a complete game gem in game one. Wild surrendered just one earned run on seven hits and struck out eight batters in the complete game win.

The Huskies got off to a hot start in game one thanks to a solo shot in the top of the first inning from Danielle Barnes (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh). It was the freshman's first career home run. Barnes would add Bloomsburg's second run in the top of the third inning when she scored on an error.

The Indians attempted a rally in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Carlee Brawley, but Wild would shut the door from that point on. Barnes went 1-for-3 with a walk, homer, RBI, and two runs scored in game one, while Erin DelPierre (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) went 2-for-3 with a walk. Getz was 2-for-3 with a run scored in game two, and Wheeland was 1-for-3 with the three RBI.

The Huskies wrap up an eight-game southern swing this Saturday, March 16, when they take on Lenoir-Rhyne. First pitch with the Bears is set for 1:00 p.m.
