SHIPPENSBURG, PA - Goalkeeper
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) made 12 saves and the Huskies defense forced 25 Raiders turnovers as the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team rolled to a 9-6 road win at Shippensburg University Tuesday. With the victory, the Huskies improve to 5-1 for the first time since the 2010 season, and remain unbeaten in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) at 2-0. The Raiders drop to 3-3 overall, and 1-1 in the PSAC with the loss.
Locked in a 1-1 tie midway through the first half, Bloomsburg seized control when
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) deposited three consecutive goals over a 13-minute span to give the Huskies a 4-1 lead with 6:44 to play in the frame.
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made it a 5-1 lead with just over three minutes to play in the half with a goal off a nice dish from
Kirsten Wozniak (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional).
The Huskies assault on goal continued early in the second stanza, as goals from
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Taylor Swakinski, and Jaskuta ballooned the Bloomsburg lead to 8-1 less than three minutes into the period. The Raiders would chip away with three straight goals to trim the Huskies lead to just four with 11:36 to play in the second half, but Bergman would deposit her second goal of the game with just over eight minutes remaining to salt away the victory for Bloomsburg.
Jaskuta finished with a game-high six points on four goals and two assists, while Wozniak tallied a game-high three assists. Bergman chipped in two goals, and Dempsey, Skawinski, and
Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township) all finished with one goal apiece.
The Bloomsburg defense was tremendous once again for the Huskies in the win, limiting Shippensburg to just six goals on the afternoon.
Tiffany Diachynsky (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) had six caused turnovers and six ground balls, while
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) caused four turnovers and scooped up four ground balls. DiPasquale continued her torrid start to the 2019 season, turning away 12 shots in the complete game victory. DiPasquale, who led the PSAC in saves per game entering Tuesday's contest, has now recorded 65 saves in just five games this season.
Madi Newman paced the Raiders with two goals and assist, while Alana Cardaci added a pair of goals. Shaely Gamble got the nod in the net for Shippensburg and accumulated 10 saves in the loss.
The Huskies will wrap up a four-game road trip this Thursday, March 21, at Chestnut Hill College. The matchup with the Griffins was originally scheduled for March 5, but was postponed due to inclement weather. First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
