LAFAYETTE HILL, PA -
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) poured in a game-high five goals and added two assists as the 25th-ranked Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-3 victory over Chestnut Hill College Thursday night. With the win, the Huskies improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Griffins fall to 1-4 overall with the loss. The last time Bloomsburg started a season 6-1 was in 2009, when the Huskies went 12-6 on the year.
Rainy conditions throughout the evening would not deter the Huskies Thursday, as Bloomsburg raced out to a 7-0 lead less than eight minutes into the first half and never looked back. Jaskuta had two goals in the spurt, while
Taylor Skawinski (Ledgewood, N.J./Morris Catholic),
Kelsey Kilgallon (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts),
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts),
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), and
Kirsten Wozniak (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) all added goals as well.
A Chestnut Hill goal courtesy of Kaley Melampy trimmed the Huskies lead to 7-1 at the 14:22 mark of the first period, but Bloomsburg closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a commanding 13-1 lead into the locker room.
Gabrielle Piccolo (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) got the run started with a goal with 13:14 to play in the frame, while freshman
Caitlin Leap (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) deposited her first career goal with just over seven minutes to play.
The Huskies offensive onslaught continued early in the second half, as a pair of goals from Jaskuta and goals from Kilgallon and
Sydney Collins (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) gave Bloomsburg a 17-1 lead with 13:50 remaining in the second stanza. The Griffins got a pair of late goals from Haley Norwillo and Julia Reinert, but freshman
Casey Hefner (Telford, Pa./Pennridge) poured in the first goal of her collegiate career to salt away the 18-3 win for the Huskies.
Jaskuta now leads Bloomsburg in points (28) and goals scored (21) on the season after Thursday's big night. Kilgallon had a career-high six points on two goals and four assists, while Leap finished with a goal and three assists. Bergman chipped in three first-half goals, and Skawinski tallied two goals. Goalkeeper
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) notched her fifth win of the season, turning away three shots in 44 minutes of action.
The Huskies return home this Saturday, March 23, to host Millersville in PSAC action. Saturday's game will be played in honor of Bloomsburg alumna and former Huskies women's lacrosse player Kelsey Paulsen, who was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident on March 8. During the game, members of Bloomsburg athletics will be accepting donations at the entrance to Steph Pettit Stadium, with all proceeds supporting Kelsey's recovery. In addition, the Huskies players and coaches will be wearing green to help raise awareness for Traumatic brain injuries. First draw with the Marauders is set for 1:00 p.m.
