THE STORY
• The Bloomsburg University men's and women's tennis teams return to action with a trio of matches this weekend. The Huskies host Fairleigh Dickinson Thursday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center, before hitting the road for a pair of matches at Millersville and West Chester on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The women's team enters the weekend at 7-0 on the year after winning all six matches in Orlando earlier this month, while the men's team is 2-2 and riding a two-game win streak.
THE HUSKIES AT A GLANCE
• The women's tennis team made it a perfect 6-for-6 on their spring break trip to Orlando with a 6-1 victory over Ithaca College back on March 14.
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) is 6-1 in dual singles matches this season (8-1 overall), while
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) is 6-2 overall on the year.
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) is 3-3 in the lead singles spot for the Huskies, while
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) is 4-1 at #2 singles.
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) is 5-2 overall in singles competition, including a 2-1 mark at #3.
• Calimer and Nery have been excellent in doubles competition this season, posting a 7-3 overall mark and 4-2 record in the lead doubles position. Bonito and Capoferri have a 5-2 dual record and have won their last two matches at #2 doubles, while
Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) and
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) are 4-0 as a tandem in the #3 position.
• After an 0-2 start to the Orlando trip earlier this month, the men's team bounced back with a pair of wins over Dickinson and Ithaca to improve to 2-2 in dual matches this year.
Lucas Pedrotti (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Sao Jose) sports a 2-2 record at #1 singles this season, while Bernardo is 3-3 overall, but just 1-3 in dual matches on the year.
Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Escolapios) has seen action at #2 and #3 singles and is 2-2.
Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) is 1-2 from the #4 position,
Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Colegio de La Asuncion Malaga) is 2-1 at #5, and
Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrews (Fla.)) is 3-0 at #6 for the Huskies.
• Abreu and Pedrotti have been lights out in doubles action this season, compiling a 4-0 dual record from the #1 slot. Carranza and Walle are 2-2 overall as a pairing, but have lost two straight entering Thursday's contest, while Wiesemann and
Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) are 2-1 at #3 doubles.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
• The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team enters Thursday's match at 5-6 on the year and has lost two straight to Queens (NY) and Seton Hall. Junior Patricia Eftenoui has 10 singles wins this season to lead the Knights (6-4 this spring), and Aleksandra Vorozheikina along with freshman Smriti Singh each have nine singles victories. Vorozheikina is 7-4 this spring to lead the Knights during dual season, while Singh is 6-3 in her singles competitions this spring. Marta Ruszczynska and Carolin Menzen each have seven singles victories this season as well.
• On the men's side, the Knights improved to 5-8 on the year with a 4-3 win over Wagner Wednesday. Mehdi Dhouib and Andris Gudins were both 2-0 on the afternoon for Fairleigh Dickinson in the win. Dhouib is 6-6 from the #1 singles position this season, while Gudins is 5-8 at #2 singles. Dhouib and Gudins have won a team-high 10 doubles matches as a tandem. Maciej Autuch has a 9-11 overall record and is 3-4 from #4 singles, and Eduardo Cabral has six wins at #6.
SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS
• Millersville women's tennis comes into Friday's match at 3-10 overall on the season, including four consecutive losses dating back to March 12. Kelsey Heckert and Katina Jones each have a team-high four singles wins on the year, while Jasmine Morris has three wins from the #2 position. Megan Rovenolt is 2-5 at #3 singles. Heckert and Victoria Hanus have been strong in doubles competition this season, notching six wins from the #3 doubles position. Corinne Grohoski and Sophie May have four wins at #2.
• The Marauders men's team is just 2-12 on the season, and looking to snap a three-game skid dating back to March 22. Carlos Martinez-Lucas has had a tremendous start to the season for the Marauders, posting a 9-5 overall record with four wins at #1 singles and five wins at #2. Frank Yanni has three wins at #3 and three wins at #4, while Ben Fellman has four wins on the year. Martinez-Lucas and Peter Landis have a team-high seven wins in doubles competition this season.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS
• The West Chester women's team comes into the weekend at 3-4 overall after a 6-1 win over Harford Community College on Wednesday. Rylee Power has three wins from the lead singles spot this season, while Danisa Errid has a team-high four wins at #3. Leandra Roelker has three wins overall in singles action, and the duo of Roelker and Errid have four wins at #2 doubles. Power and Alyssa Skulsky have paired together for seven matches at #1 doubles and have four wins.
• The Golden Rams men's team has yet to earn a team victory in dual matches this season, falling to 0-8 with a 7-2 loss to Harford Wednesday. The #3 doubles team of Brett Spano and Gavin Kenny have the lone win for West Chester this season, while Chris Succi is winless in eight matches at #1 singles.
LOOKING AHEAD
• Following this weekend's matches, the Huskies will return to the court on Friday, April 5, at Shepherd University. The Huskies will then head to Virginia State on April 6. First serve with the Rams next Friday is set for 4:00 p.m.
