BLOOMSBURG, PA -
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) held a one-set lead at sixth singles after a 6-4 first set, but the Bloomsburg University women's tennis team fell 5-0 to Division I Fairleigh Dickinson Thursday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The loss snaps a seven match win streak for the Huskies dating back to the fall.
The Knights raced out to a quick 1-0 team lead after the doubles competition thanks to wins from Patricia Eftenoiu and Carolin Menzen at #2 and Smriti Singh and Isabelle Ismanescu at #3 doubles.
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) and
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) were leading Marta Ruszczynska and Aleksandra Vorozheikina 6-5 at first doubles, but the match was not completed.
Menzen extended the Fairleigh Dickinson lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) at #5 singles, and Ruszczynska followed with a straight-set victory over
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) at first singles. Wins from Singh and Vorozheikina at #4 and #2 singles, respectively, would clinch the victory for the Knights. Sarquis took the first set 6-4 against Ismanescu at #6 singles, and led 2-0 in the second set before the match was called.
Bloomsburg returns to the court this Saturday, March 30, at Millersville University. First serve with the Marauders is set for 1:00 p.m.
