MILLERSVILLE, PA -
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) notched a pair of singles victories and a win at #1 doubles to power the Bloomsburg University women's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Millersville University Saturday. With the win, the Huskies improve to 8-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Marauders fall to 3-11 overall, and 0-1 in the conference with the loss.
Calimer and Nery would help Bloomsburg secure the team doubles point with a 7-5 win over Katina Jones and Jasmine Morris in the lead doubles match, while
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) locked up the point with a 6-3 triumph over Megan Rovenolt and Corinne Grohoski at #2. Kelsey Heckert and Victoria Hanus claimed Milersville's lone doubles win, defeating
Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) and
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) 6-1.
Calimer and Nery would continue their strong days in the singles portion of the match, as Calimer downed Morris 6-1, 6-2 at #2, and Nery stormed back from a first set loss to defeat Heckert 4-6, 6-1, 10-7.
Bonito clinched the team victory with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Rovenolt at #4 singles, and
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) capped the performance with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Hanus at #5. Jones and Grohoski earned singles victories for the Marauders over Capoferri at #1 and Cerra at #6, respectively.
Bloomsburg returns to the court this Wednesday, April 3, at West Chester University. The match was originally scheduled for this Sunday afternoon, but was postponed due to impending poor weather. First serve with the Golden Rams is set for 3:30 p.m.
