BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Redshirt sophomore
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) scored four goals and added four assists to lift the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team to a 13-3 victory over visiting Jefferson University on Friday at Steph Pettit Stadium. With the win, the Huskies improved to 3-0 on the young season. The contest was the first of the year for the Rams.
Kelleher received offensive support from senior
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) and sophomore
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) who each added three goals on the afternoon. It marked the third straight contest with a hat trick for Jaskuta, who continues to lead the team in goals with 11 on the season. Meanwhile, it was the second career hat trick for Bergman who scored four goals at Jefferson as a freshman a season ago.
Sophomores
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and
Allison Bardman (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) and freshman
Kelsey Kilgallon (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) added single tallies to round out the scoring for Bloomsburg. Kilgallon also added an assist in the victory.
The Huskies jumped out to an 8-0 lead through 20 minutes of action in the first half as Kelleher had two goals and two helpers to jump-start the offense. Jaskuta scored all three of her goals during the stretch while Bardman, Dempsey, and Kilgallon had the other markers. The Rams finally solved junior goalkeeper
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) when Erin Eckert scored to cut the lead to 8-1 with 4:56 left in the opening half. Bergman completed the first-half scoring 90 seconds later as the Huskies took a 9-1 lead into intermission.
Bloomsburg started quickly in the second half as it scored the first four goals of the period to extend the advantage to 13-1. Bergman got the Huskies into double figures just 21 seconds into the half before Kelleher scored back-to-back tallies in two minutes to push the lead to 12-1. Bergman completed her hat trick with 10:50 remaining for, what proved to be, Bloomsburg's final goal of the day. Jefferson's Erin Campbell and Kanha Crawford added free-position goals against DiPasquale in the closing minutes for the final margin.
DiPasquale was sensational in goal for the Huskies as she improved to 2-0 on the season. She was credited with nine saves while also tying for the team lead with five ground balls. Jefferson was 2-for-8 on free-position attempts against the Huskies' netminder.
Kelsey Kaplowitz suffered the loss for the Rams as she collected seven stops on the day.
The Huskies' defense helped DiPasquale as they forced Jefferson into 27 turnovers while collecting 27 ground balls. DiPasquale and Dempsey tied for the team lead with five ground balls while sophomore
