BLOOMSBURG, PA -
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) tallied a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists to power the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team to a 14-7 home win over Slippery Rock Saturday morning. The Huskies improve to 10-3 overall, and 6-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with the win.
Kelleher has been sensational for the Huskies recently, notching a whopping 22 points over her last three games. The redshirt sophomore leads Bloomsburg with 50 total points on 30 goals and a team-high 20 assists in just nine games this season. Kelleher leads the PSAC in points per game (5.56) and ranks fifth in goals per game (3.33) on the year.
After trading goals in the opening minute of the first half, the Huskies seized control with six consecutive goals over the next 20 minutes to take a 7-1 lead with 10:49 to play in the period. Kelleher had three goals in the run, while
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area),
Erika Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), and
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) added goals as well.
Tori Penders scored for the Rock to trim the Bloomsburg lead to five, with 5:36 to play in the frame, but the Huskies closed the half with five more goals to take a commanding 12-2 lead into the locker room. Kelleher, Jaskuta, Bergman, Biehl, and
Allison Bardman (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) did the honors for Bloomsburg in the run.
Slippery Rock mounted a rally early in the second half with a trio of goals to trim the deficit to seven with 20:05 to play, but back-to-back goals from
Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and
Erika Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) would salt away the victory for the Huskies.
Biehl finished with a hat trick and three caused turnovers in the win, while Bergman, Gormley, and Jaskuta recorded two goals apiece. Hayley Pimentel, Tori Penders, and ShyAnne Toomer each had a pair of goals for the Rock.
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) got the nod between the pipes for Bloomsburg and turned away nine shots in the victory.
Bloomsburg has now won four consecutive games and takes a 6-2 conference record into a crucial PSAC battle with defending conference champion West Chester Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Rams are 11-2 overall, and 7-1 in the PSAC after an impressive 17-2 win over Edinboro Saturday. First draw from Steph Pettit stadium is set for 4:00 p.m.
