Softball's Win Streak Snapped in Doubleheader Loss to Lock Haven Saturday

GAME 1 HTML | GAME 2 HTML

LOCK HAVEN, PA - Erin DelPierre (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) went 2-for-4 with a run scored in game two, but the Bloomsburg University softball team managed to plate just one run on the afternoon in a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central losses to Lock Haven University Saturday. The Huskies tallied just three hits in a 7-0 loss in game one, and were held scoreless until the sixth inning of a 3-1 loss in game two. The losses snap a nine-game win streak for Bloomsburg, who falls to 24-15 overall and 11-5 in the PSAC Central.

Lock Haven hurler Bekah Slattery was tremendous in the circle in game one, limiting the Huskies to just three hits over seven innings. DelPierre notched Bloomsburg's first hit in the top of the first, and Kelsey Impink (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) looked to kick-start a rally with a double in the top of the second, but the Huskies were unable to bring home any runs in the contest. Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) had Bloomsburg's third hit when she legged out a single to third base in the top of the third.

Casey Carpenter, Traci Kromko, and Slattery each had a pair of runs batted in for the Bald Eagles in game one, while Amanda Criss went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Abby Wild (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) got the ball for Bloomsburg in game one, but allowed five earned runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings.

The Huskies recorded eight hits in game two, but were only able to score one run in the top of the sixth when DelPierre scored on an RBI flyout from Sammi Starr (Berwick, Pa./21st Century Cyber Charter). Slattery would step up for the Bald Eagles once again, however, notching the final two outs in the sixth and tossing a scoreless seventh to earn the save. Becca Caputo got the start for Lock Haven and threw two scoreless innings, while Kayla Gee allowed just one earned run in 3.0 innings and earned the victory.

In addition to DelPierre, Winkelman and Impink each had a pair of hits for Bloomsburg in game two, while Briannah Dobson (York, Pa./Central York) and Emily Getz (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) both went 1-for-3. Tara Baney (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) got the start in the circle for the Huskies and surrendered just one earned run on five hits in 5.0 innings of work. Rachel Gricoski was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Lock Haven, and Casey Carpenter went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Bloomsburg travels to Philadelphia for a non-conference doubleheader with Holy Family University this Tuesday, April 23, before traveling to Clarion for a PSAC Central double-dip on Friday, April 26. The Huskies will wrap up the regular season at home on Saturday, April 27, against IUP. First pitch with Holy Family is set for 2:30 p.m.
