KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team, ranked tenth in the latest ITA Atlantic Regional poll, secured a place in the upcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament after a 7-0 blanking of Kutztown University on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies, who will appear in the conference playoffs for the sixth straight year, improved to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC Eastern Division. The Golden Bears dropped to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in the division.

The Huskies had little trouble as it won all singles matches in straight sets and won all three doubles matches to jump out to a 1-0 advantage.

In doubles, junior Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and sophomore Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) got the ball rolling at #2 with a 6-0 win over Alicia Pursell and Catherine Maher. Sophomore Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) and senior Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) then posted a 6-1 win at #3 over Ashley Carter and Shadimon Navarro which was then followed by a 6-4 victory at #1 by juniors Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) over Yasmeen Malik and Amanda Grebosky.

Senior Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) extended the Bloomsburg lead to 2-0 with a 7-5, 6-1 win at #5 over Sarah Grebosky. Bonito pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Maher at #4 and Capoferri secured the team win for the Huskies with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #1 over Malik.

Calimer, Nery, and Sarquis polished off the sweep with wins at #2, #3, and #6, respectively.

The Huskies will play a pair of non-conference matches at the Burt Reese Tennis Center this week before hosting a PSAC quarterfinal contest on Tuesday, April 30. This week, Bloomsburg will host Wilkes on Thursday, April 25, and West Liberty on Saturday, April 27.
