BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team kept rolling on Thursday evening as it posted a 5-2 victory over visiting Wilkes University at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The Huskies improved to 14-2 overall and picked up its sixth consecutive win with the victory over the Colonels. Wilkes fell to 10-4 on the year.
The Huskies started the evening by winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the team point heading into singles action. Sophomore
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) and junior
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) blanked Alexa Cieri and Dagney Markle, 6-0, at #2. The Colonels tied the doubles action with a victory by Francesca Valera-Seri and Sarah Malone at #3 but the Huskies' duo of junior
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and sophomore
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) took the deciding doubles match with a 6-3 victory at #1.
The singles action was just as competitive as five of the six matches went to a third-set superbreaker. The only one that was decided in straight sets came at #2 where Calimer gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Dasha Yakhnis. With the victory, Calimer picked up her team-leading 14th win of the season in singles as she moved to 14-5 overall.
Senior
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) extended the Bloomsburg lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 2-6, 10-7 victory over Erin Volutza at #4 to pick up her 12th win of the season. Volutza entered the night with a team-high 15 victories for Wilkes. After the Colonels cut the Bloomsburg lead to 3-1 with a victory by Valera-Seri at #1, Bonito sealed the Huskies' win with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 win at #3 over Dana Saliyev. Bonito trailed by several points in the third set before going on a run to post the two-point win in the deciding set.Â
Markle picked up the Colonels' second win of the night at #6 before Sarquis finished off the Huskies' victory with a 5-7, 6-0, 10-5 win at #5 over Rachel Thomas.

Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) prior to the contest.

The Huskies will play their final regular season match of the year when they host West Liberty University at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on Saturday, April 27. The match is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. Bloomsburg will then host Millersville University on Tuesday evening, April 30, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinal match. The semifinals and championship will be held at Bloomsburg on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4.
