STROUDSBURG, PA -
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) netted a team-high three goals, but a 9-4 Warriors second half would propel 14th-ranked East Stroudsburg to a 14-8 win over the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies have now lost three straight games, and are eliminated from contention for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament at 10-6 overall, and 6-5 in the PSAC.
Bloomsburg gave the Warriors all they could handle in the first period, as Jaskuta,
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side),
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), and
Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) all tallied first half scores, but an East Stroudsburg goal from TJ Jefferis in the final minute of the opening frame would give the Warriors a 5-4 lead at the break.
The deficit swelled to three early in the second half after East Stroudsburg goals from Brooke Fritz and Hana Cicerelle, but Bloomsburg would punch back with three consecutive goals to knot it at 7-7 with 21:35 to play. A pair of Jaskuta goals bookended a score from
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) in the spurt.
The Huskies rally would end there, however, as the Warriors would end the game on a 7-1 run over the final 21:06 to earn the six-point victory. Krista Mitarotonda was excellent in the run for East Stroudsburg, notching three goals in the final 17 minutes of action.
Kelleher paced Bloomsburg with four points on a goal and three assists, while
Kelsey Kilgallon (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) had a goal and an assist.
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) got the start in goal for the Huskies and had 10 saves in the complete game effort. Mitarotonda had a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists to lead the Warriors.
The Huskies will wrap up the regular season this Saturday, April 27, at home against Gannon University. Prior to the start of Saturday's game, Bloomsburg lacrosse will honor its senior class for their tremendous careers with the Huskies. First Draw with the Golden Knights is set for 1:00 p.m.
