COMPLETE COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Senior
Nick McGuire (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) from the Bloomsburg University men's cross country and track & field teams has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® First Team as announced, and selected, by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
It marks the first Academic All-District® designation for McGuire in his collegiate career.
In the fall, McGuire became the first male runner at Bloomsburg to qualify for the cross country national championships since 2006 when he placed sixth overall at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships - also the program's best finish at regionals since the 2006 season. He was named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region First Team and earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First Team accolades with a third-place finish at the conference championships. It was the best finish by a Bloomsburg male runner at the conference meet since 2005. McGuire was the Huskies' top runner in the final six events of the season and went on to finish 108th overall at the national championships.
During the track and field season, McGuire earned a fifth-place result in the 5000-meter run during the PSAC Indoor Championships with a personal-best time of 15:13.99 and then added a pair of podium finishes during the PSAC Outdoor Championships as he finished in the top eight in both the 5000-meter run and the 10000-meter run. He placed sixth in the 10K with a time of 32:13.10 and then posted a time of 15:23.39 in the 5K to earn a seventh-place finish. The three podium results marked the first three of his collegiate track and field career.
In 2017, McGuire earned All-PSAC Second Team honors in cross country after a 20th-place result at the conference championships. He went on to finish 32nd at the Atlantic Regional Championships. McGuire has been a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, a two-time D2 ADA Scholar-Athlete, and also served his senior year as the Vice President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). McGuire was also the Treasurer of the Political Science Student Association and was a member of the following honor societies: Phi Sigma Iota, Pi Sigma Alpha, and Phi Kappa Phi. At the May commencement, McGuire received the Outstanding Student in Political Science Award - with another student - and the Gloria Cohen-Dion Service Award for Political Science.
McGuire graduated with a degree in political science and had a cumulative grade point average of 3.86.
