INDIANA, Pa. - The Crimson Hawks of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) scored twice in the third period to turn back the visiting Bloomsburg University field hockey team, 2-0, in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon at George P. Miller Stadium. IUP improved its record to 3-0 while the Huskies dropped to 0-3.
Entering the contest, the Huskies had won three straight - and 12 of their last 13 - against the Crimson Hawks in the all-time series.
The game was a defensive battle throughout as the teams combined for 11 shots but, after a scoreless first half that saw only four total shots, the contest changed dramatically in the third.
Â
Just over a minute into the second half, IUP junior Georgiana Chiavacci gave the Crimson Hawks the lead for good when she netted her second goal of the season at 31:02. Freshman Blaise Cugini finished the scoring with her third marker of the campaign with just 50 seconds left in the stanza. The hosts outshot the Huskies, 6-0, in the third and had the period's five penalty corner opportunities.
Â
Overall, Bloomsburg was outshot 8-3 in the game's 60 minutes and was bested in penalty corners by an 8-2 margin. After maintaining pressure early, the Huskies' offense was held without a penalty corner over the final 57 minutes and was held without a shot attempt over the final 53-and-a-half minutes.

Senior
Willow Perkins (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) joined sophomores
Kristen Robinson (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) and
Callie Edwards (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) with the lone Bloomsburg shots. Edwards had the only shot on goal. Freshman goalkeeper

Bloomsburg will seek its first win of the season on Wednesday, September 18, when it returns to Steph Pettit Stadium to entertain nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg University at 4:00 p.m.
