STORYLINE
The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team heads to Shippensburg on Wednesday night for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division showdown between a pair of teams looking for their fourth victory in five games to start the season. The Huskies went 1-1 last week and dropped from fifth in the country - according to the United Soccer Coaches - to others receiving votes in the latest poll released on Tuesday afternoon.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Huskies lead the all-time series against the Raiders, 21-9-2. The teams met at David See Field last season with Bloomsburg posting a 3-0 shutout victory over Shippensburg.
Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area) and
Jamie Marsico (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) scored first-half goals while
Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) added some insurance late in the second half en route to the win.
Jenna Hawkins (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) was credited with four saves as Bloomsburg held a 25-5 advantage in shots.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
Bloomsburg is 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC Eastern Division but dropped from fifth to others receiving votes according to the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll released on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies went 1-1 last week, dropping a 1-0 double overtime decision to East Stroudsburg last Wednesday before bouncing back for a dominating 3-0 win at Mansfield on Saturday.
Mackenzie Gebhardt (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen),
Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional), and
Emily Clauss (Scranton, Pa./Abington Heights) scored for the Huskies against the Mountaineers and Bloomsburg held a whopping 50-6 advantage in shots. Clauss' goal was the first of her collegiate career. The Huskies have outscored their opponents, 9-1, through the first four games with all nine goals being scored after halftime.
Nicole Varano (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel) leads Bloomsburg with three goals for six points while Hoelke has a goal and a team-high three helpers for five points.
Jamie Marsico (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) has two goals for four points on the year.
Jenna Hawkins (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) has seen every minute in goal and is 3-1 with a 0.24 goals against average and a .947 save percentage. Bloomsburg has outshot its opposition, 106-29, through four games.
SCOUTING SHIPPENSBURG
The Raiders won their first three games of the season but are coming off of a 1-0 loss in Lock Haven on Saturday. All four of their contests have been decided by one goal as their victories have come against Pitt-Johnstown (1-0), Frostburg State (1-0), and Shepherd (2-1). Izzy Weigel and K.K. O'Donnell each have a goal and an assist for three points to lead the team in scoring. Allie Christman and Kendall Mikkelsen also have goals for the Raiders. In goal, Delaney Shifflett has played every minute and is 3-1 with a 0.50 goals against average and a .913 save percentage on the season.
