SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University field hockey team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday evening as the Huskies dropped a 5-1 decision at sixth-ranked Shippensburg University in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener for both teams. Bloomsburg dropped to 2-5 overall while the Raiders improved to 4-3 on the season.
Shippensburg scored four unanswered goals over the last three quarters to break open a 1-1 tie after the opening 15 minutes. The Raiders struck first when Jazmin Petrantonio collected her own rebound and beat freshman goalkeeper
Abby Shaffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) just 1:45 into the contest. Bloomsburg answered as sophomore
Foto Tsioles (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) continued her impressive start to the season by notching her team-leading fourth goal of the year at 6:37. Tsioles has scored four of Bloomsburg's 11 goals through seven matches this season.
But, the Raiders took a 2-1 advantage on Petrantonio's second goal of the game at 23:56 when she scored off of a penalty corner. Petrantonio completed the hat trick just 1:24 into the second half to extend the Raiders' lead to 3-1 and, less than three minutes later, Valen Alonso extended the lead to 4-1 with her first goal of the season. Hannah Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) four minutes later.
Emily Stauffer closed out the scoring with just 2:23 left in regulation when she tipped home a pass from Petrantonio.
Shippensburg held an 18-7 advantage in shots and had a slimmer, 7-5, edge in penalty corner opportunities. Shaffer was saddled with the loss as she dropped to 2-4 overall on the season. The freshman was credited with five saves in nearly 39 minutes of action. Barnard turned aside three shots in just over 21 minutes. On the flip side, Megan Lay improved to 4-3 on the year with the victory. She was credited with a pair of saves.

Bloomsburg returns home on Wednesday, October 2, to host fifth-ranked Kutztown University at Steph Pettit Stadium on ROTC Day. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
