BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team saw its modest two-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Huskies dropped a 2-1 double overtime decision to visiting Lock Haven University at Steph Pettit Stadium. With the loss, the Huskies dropped to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division while the Bald Eagles improved to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the division.
Junior
Kacper Grycel (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) scored his first goal of the season - and just the second of his career - in the 80th minute to tie the match at 1-1 and to force overtime. Junior
Thomas King (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) made a perfect pass into the box from the left wing that found the foot of senior
Mike Bazadona III (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) who one-timed a shot on Lock Haven goalkeeper Camden Cook. Cook made the initial save but Grycel was there to bury the rebound as the Huskies provided some late-minute magic for the second consecutive match.
However, Lock Haven's Andrea DiSomma provided the heroics for the visitors when he notched his second goal of the match with just 3:59 left in the second overtime. Shane Colegrove was credited with the assist.
The Huskies came within inches of winning in regulation twice but, unfortunately, the posts behind Cook had other ideas. Six minutes after DiSomma put the Bald Eagles ahead 1-0 in the 58th minute, senior
Duncan Mitchell (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) rang a shot off of the crossbar to keep the Huskies off of the scoreboard. Then, with just 27 seconds left in the second half, freshman
Foti Malitas (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) took a shot from the left wing that beat Cook but hit the far post to keep the score tied and sent the match to overtime.
Bloomsburg finished the afternoon with a 20-13 advantage in shots including a 12-2 margin in the second half. The Huskies also had six corner kick opportunities - four in the two overtime sessions - while Lock Haven had four. Freshman goalkeeper
Nolan Michaels (Independence, Ohio/St. Vincent - St. Mary) dropped to 3-3 overall on the season as he turned aside two Bald Eagle shots in the contest. Cook stopped eight shots to improve to 2-3 on the season.
