BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team honored its two graduating seniors with a 78-73 statement win over the 24
th-ranked Shippensburg University, Saturday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 10-17 on the year and 7-14 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action while the Raiders dropped to 20-6 on the year and 16-4 in league play.

The win for Bloomsburg snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Raiders and a gave the Huskies their second win in a row heading into the final game of the season. The Raiders are the second nationally-ranked team Bloomsburg has defeated this year after the Huskies beat then ranked #14 West Chester 100-89 on January 25.

Prior to the game, the Huskies honored their two graduating seniors –
Ky Mauras (Reading, Pa./Reading) and
Sam Saxton (York, Pa./Central York). Mauras is the 30
th member of the 1000
-point club for Bloomsburg and the only Husky to record a triple-double.

Redshirt junior
Max Wagner (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) led the team with a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds while Mauras and freshman
Justin Anderson (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) each chipped in 16 points. Sophomore
Travis Elmore (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) added 13 points while Saxton finished with 11. All 78 points for the Huskies came from their starters.
As a team, Bloomsburg shot 50.8% (30-for-59) from the field and were 6-of-16 from three-point range. The Huskies were 12-of-16 from the free throw line and edged out the Raiders 38-37 in the rebounding battle.

Jake Biss led the scoring for the Raiders with 20 points as Shippensburg shot 39.4% (28-of-71) from the field and were 8-of-28 from beyond the arc. The Raiders were 9-of-12 from the free throw line.

In the first two minutes of action, the lead changed hands three times before Bloomsburg pushed its lead to five, 14-9, with 14:53 to play in the half. The Raiders used an 8-0 run to take an 18-14 lead with 12:13 to play, but that would prove to be their largest lead for the rest of the game. Bloomsburg took the lead back, 19-18, thanks to a jumper from Saxton and a three from Anderson, with 10:40 to play. Luke Nedrow hit a jumper to give Shippensburg the lead for the last time but Mauras tied the game at 20-20 after hitting the front end of a trip to the free throw line with 9:28 to play in the first.

Bloomsburg extended its lead to six, 27-21, with 6:47 to play but the Raiders came clawing back and got to within one, 27-26. The Huskies did not relinquish the lead, however, and pushed it back to five three different times. With 1:15 left in the half, Anderson grabbed a defense rebound and went coast-to-coast for the layup to give Bloomsburg a 36-31 lead. Elmore pushed the lead to seven, 38-31, in the final minute but Biss hit a three on the Raiders next possession to trim the lead to four at halftime.

The Raiders used a four-point run to open the second half to tie the game at 38-38 with. 19:06 to play in regulation. Saxton halted the Raider run and hit a three at the 18:41 mark to give Bloomsburg the lead for good. The Raiders were able to keep the advantage to single digits, and got as close as one point four times, the last at the 14:26 mark, 47-46. Bloomsburg then went on a 10-0 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game, 57-46, with 11:02 to play.

Bloomsburg extended its lead to as many as 14 points, 67-53, with 7:10 to play but the Raiders would not go quietly. Shippensburg went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to get to within five, 69-64, but a layup from Wagner at the 3:02 mark pushed the lead back to seven, 71-64.

Four straight points from Shippensburg cut the lead back to two, 71-69, but a layup from Anderson and a pair of free throws from Mauras pushed the lead back to six with 1:07 left in regulation, 75-69. Kiyon Hardy made a pair of free throws as well to make it a four-point game with 43 seconds left. Elmore hit the first of two free throws to extend the lead to five, but Dom Sleva tipped in a loose ball at the eight-second mark to make it a one-possession game. The ball was nearly stolen at mid-court as Bloomsburg was clearing the timeline but Mauras was fouled instead and hit both of his free throws with four seconds to play to seal the 78-73 win for Bloomsburg.

The Huskies wrap up the season on Wednesday when they welcome Kutztown to Nelson Field House for a 7:30 p.m. PSAC contest. The Golden Bears are 11-15 on the year and 9-11 in conference play. Currently, Kutztown is locked in a three-way tie for the last two spots in the PSAC tournament with Lock Haven and Shepherd.
