HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games on the final day of the Coker University Spring Tournament, The Huskies opened the day with a 3-2 win over Fairmont State University before dropping the second game of the day, 7-5, to the University of Mount Olive.

The Huskies improved to 1-3 after the weekend.

Junior
Abby Wild (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) earned the first win of the season for the Huskies in her second-straight complete game against Fairmont State. Wild pitched 7.0 innings, allowed just two earned runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out six for the day.

Sophomore
Sammi Starr (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) got the scoring going in the top of the first as she doubled to left center to bring home sophomore
Erin DelPierre (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin). DelPierre opened the inning with a walk.

After a scoreless bottom of the first and top of the second, Fairmont State tied the game in the bottom of the second with a single through the right side with runners on second and third. The Huskies got the second out of the inning as the runner second attempted to advance on the play and a ground out to second ended the frame.

Bloomsburg retook the lead in the top of the third as Starr singled home senior
Kelsey Impink (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) after she doubled to opened the inning.

The Falcons tied the game in the fourth but Wild held Fairmont State scoreless in the fifth and sixth and junior
Briannah Dobson (York, Pa./Central York) singled up the middle to bring home Starr for the eventual game-winning run in the top of the seventh

Wild got the first batter of the bottom of the inning looking before letting up a bunt single. A sacrifice got the second of out the inning for the Huskies and Wild closed out the game with a strikeout to earn her first win of the year.

Bloomsburg got out to another quick lead in the bottom of the first in the second game against Mount Olive as Impink brought home DelPierre. Senior
Julia Knight (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) pushed the lead to 2-0 with a single to bring home Impink.

The Trojans scored a run in the top of the second and top of the third to tie the game at 2-2 but the Huskies took the lead back with an RBI single from redshirt junior
Nicolette Ray (Abington, Pa./Abington) as Starr scored from second.

The Trojans tied the game 3-3 in the fourth and took a 5-3 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Mount Olive pushed its lead to 7-3 with two more runs in the top of the seventh but Bloomsburg got a pair back in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead to 7-5. With runners on second and third and two out, Dobson walked to load the bases. Ray singled up the middle to bring home Starr and Impink. The Trojans got their final out with a line out to left to pick up their second win of the weekend over the Huskies.
Wild took the loss for Bloomsburg in the second game after pitching the final three innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits and one walk. Wild posted six more strikeouts.

For the day, Starr was 4-for-7, including a pair of doubles, with three runs scored. Ray drove in three runs for the Huskies.

The Huskies return to action next Saturday as they travel to Bowie, Md. for a pair of games against Bowie State University. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
